The humorous adventures of an irresistible little rock who finds herself in constantly changing circumstances, Petra is a picture book that celebrates the power of perspective and believing in yourself. Petra is a little rock who believes she is a mighty mountain . . . until a dog fetches her for its owner, and she is tossed into a bird's nest. A mountain? No, Petra is now an egg! An egg of the world in a world of possibility. Until she's flung into a pond, and becomes an amazing island . . . and, eventually, a little girl's pet rock. What will she be tomorrow? Who knows? But she's a rock, and this is how she rolls!

I would most definitely suggest this book as a read for young children. It is easy to follow and a cute story that may change how we see rocks, eggs, and everything really!

This is such a cute book. It takes the POV of Petra, who believes she is an egg. She keeps getting mistaken as a rock. The illustrations carry on the story as she is moved around

This book doesn‘t have a lot of dialogue but it has illustrations that fill up almost every page. Each doesn‘t use a lot of color but the small amount of color pops on the pages

Petra is a pebble with lofty goals. The illustrations breathe life into the story, look at the emotion on Petra‘s face! Maya and I both loved the rock humor at the end.

alisiakae Bonus of reading this with a middle schooler: we also talked about how Petra‘s pretending is different from other way‘s that people pretend to be something they are not. 5y

#NoFemmeber Day 16: #UnderARock reminds me of Petra, the rock. There seems to be a definitive quality to Petra, an assurance of a clear identity that is not really questioned. This certainty, however, is questioned when out of the blue, a dog appears and takes Petra into his mouth, while fetching his stick. Petra then becomes transformed into a disposable rock, a pebble, an egg, an island. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-iF7

Billypar You have so many that are simultaneously philosophical and adorable! 😊 6y

The illustrations make this pebble as expressive as any human or animal character. And you can‘t help but root for the pebble with lofty goals. Adorable.

#ReadingResolutions Day 7: This is a sorta-kinda #RainbowStack of library books: what happens when you have a double up your reading loan for the school holidays. This is a delightful story of a rock that is definitely more than just a rock.

Is Petra a mountain? Or a pebble? An egg or maybe an island? Read the book to find out! This sweet story follows the life of Petra, who isn‘t completely aware of what she is, but who finds adventuring and meaning through every form she takes! This story reminds us that life‘s not always about what you are on the outside but who you are inside!  #UCFLAE3414

sboynt This is a great story for SR. While S, RA, CR, and RT could also go along well with the book. This online blog is a great resource to learn more about the book, author, a cute activity to go along with the story and also questions to ask students after the reading. https://www.afriendlyaffair.com/blog/petra-picture-book-activty-guide-and-diy-ki... 7y
sboynt The UDL 7.2 guideline of optimizing relevance, value and authenticity is important to incorporate for this story. ESOL 36 of asking numerous questions which require higher level thinking responses could be utilized through the activity and questions provided in the resource. 7y
Jeffersleighann I like this book and would love to add it to my classroom library! I feel like it would be a great book to let students know it‘s okay to not know who they are but to enjoy the steps along the way. It might even be good for 5th graders. 7y

4⭐️ Who knew a rock could have such facial expressions. That is what a good artist can do. This is the story of a rock, who thinks it a mountain, or an egg, or even an elephant. A fun journey for the reader and the rock.
