The Important Book
The Important Book | Margaret Wise Brown
5 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
The important thing about The Important Book -- is that you let your child tell you what is important about the sun and the moon and the wind and the rain and a bug and a bee and a chair and a table and a pencil and a bear and a rainbow and a cat (if he wants to). For the important thing about The Important Book is that the book goes on long after it is closed. What is most important about many familiar things -- like rain and wind, apples and daisies -- is suggested in rhythmic words and vivid pictures. 'A perfect book . . . the text establishes a word game which tiny children will accept with glee.' -- K.

Kiddy Lit Challenge- I am reading 52 children‘s literature book just for the fun of it.
This is a cute book with a great pattern. I would love to use this as a model for students to write books about items, ideas, and people that are important to them.

Nute That is a wonderful ‘just for the fun of it‘ thing to do. I love Children‘s Literature. Have fun! 6y
Daisey I‘ve used this book as inspiration to have my students write an informational class book about different types of rocks. I could see using a similar idea for many topics. 6y

One of my favorite traditions came from the Daytona Beach National Writing Project. I read my students The Important Book on the last day of school and then surprise them with their own poem. The only down side is fighting back the tears as I read the poems on the last day my kiddos are officially mine!

The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrations by Leonard Weisgard, is a P picture book that would be great for SR. The book would be a fantastic model for introducing a lesson on main idea & supporting details. Students will notice the pattern of the text and write their own “important” paragraph following the same format. #UCFLAE3414F17 #ClassroomLibrary

MadisonCarter I also like this Scholastic lesson plan for writing a class book using the pattern of the text: https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/important-book... UDL 3.2 ‘highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships‘
EL 8 ‘Use direct instruction: modeling, explaining, scaffolding, name the strategy and how to use it‘

DrSpalding Good choice. Margaret Wise Brown is the author of the beloved Good Night Moon. Class books are fantastic additions to your classroom library. Often times they are the first box students will want to read again and again because they were a part of its creation. 7y
