The story was mediocre, but the narration was embarrassingly bad. So bad that it kept distracting my attention from the story. This one (which isn't the tagged book) was one in the middle of a bunch of other (better) Eleven stories within an audio exclusive set.

rabbitprincess I didn't like this one either, for the same reasons 😕 6y
Traci1 @rabbitprincess I feel kind of bad for being so hard on the narrator. I mean I couldn't do Rory's accent to save my life. But then again, nobody is paying me to do it, so... I just felt like the guy had never even watched the show. 6y
BooknerdsLife That‘s why I‘m afraid to get these Doctor Who audio books...except for the ones done by the original TV cast 🙈 6y
Traci1 @BooknerdsLife in this set, Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill narrate some of them, though arguably neither of them does Amy right. Meera Syal narrates one. You never confuse her for the Doctor, but she does such a masterful job, you won't care. I feel like this one was an exception as far as the narrations go. I do prefer the ones that the cast does, though. Catherine Tate has one from the Ten set that is particularly good. But I love her, so... 6y
BooknerdsLife @Traci1 I guess I‘m not a big audio books fan so the narration is really important for me ...either they kill it or I can‘t be bothered 🙈 Awww I Love David Tennant & Catherine Tate😍💙 they are the Best combo👍🏼 6y

Blackout: 1⭐️ Dodgy character voices that were so distracting I couldn't listen anymore.
The Art of Death: 2.5⭐️ Better narration, but still a lot of work for the single narrator to do multiple voices.
Overall rating for this collection: 1.5⭐️ There may have been promise in pockets, but I can't say I liked this book.

The audio-exclusive adventure Blackout has the dodgiest character voices I've heard in a long time. Eleven sounds like Ben Whishaw as Paddington, which isn't terrible, but Amy sounds American?! And I am not sure what Rory is supposed to be.

Traci1 I haven't listened to this one yet, but I've noticed that unless Karen is narrating herself, nobody ever gets Amy right. 6y
rabbitprincess @Traci1 This is just, like, beyond not right. I think this guy would make an OK narrator of a full-cast recording, but he doesn't have a wide enough range to do multiple voices. 6y
Laura317 This isn‘t Big Finish? 🤔 6y
rabbitprincess @Laura317 No, I think it is produced by the BBC. 6y

The Jade Pyramid is the 3rd in the set of 11th Doctor Audio Adventures and was narrated by Matt Smith. Matt does a good job with this one, though his Amy is still terrible. The story was a good one filled with Ronin and Ninja and fuzzy ogres. Short but fun.

Laura317 So this is different than the Big Finish? Are these available in the US? 7y
Traci1 @Laura317 I got the set from Audible (and I'm in the US). They are produced by BBC. This set has around 14 or 15 different stories, all read by a cast member (they aren't full cast like the big finish ones tend to be). 7y

Traci1 Using an audible credit seems like a good idea to me since you get nearly 20 hours of stories. You can get them individually as well, but it'd cost a lot more. 7y
Traci1 @Laura317 oh and the tagged book isn't the right one. It was just the best fit I could find. 7y
Laura317 I will have to look this up on Audible. Thanks for the tip! 7y

Tagged book isn't the correct one.

This was a nice, albeit short, audio adventure narrated by Arthur Darvill, who does a great job. His eleventh Doctor is spot on. His Amy isn't great, but I'm beginning to think she's just tough to imitate.

I finished this last night, and I still don't know what it was meant to be about. Were they on a train? Was it a runaway? I have no idea. Matt Smith's narration was good except for his Amy, which was awful.

The tagged book isn't the right title.

Confession time: The book pictured was a birthday present for @Annl but I may have read it before I sent it! 😂 #NovemberbytheNumbers #Eleven #11 @JoeStalksBeck @Tiffy_Reads

Lcsmcat In my family we ALWAYS read a book before gifting it, and if we don‘t, we apologize. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7y
