A few to consider @squirrelbrain (I did sneak a space laser gun one in there - but it's really a love story). @HookedonBooks

squirrelbrain Thank you! And, yay, I‘ve read one (the Ishiguro) - again I‘d never have called that sci-fi so that‘s really intriguing. One of the York bookshops stocks these SF editions so maybe I‘m overdue a visit. We should have another meet-up so you can educate me properly! 😁 🤖 2y
Oryx @squirrelbrain I'm definitely not an expert but those SF masterworks were my gateway to sci fi. I know the shop you mean! I'm definitely up for another meet up in York - maybe in August? 2y
Caroline2 Ohhh these all look really interesting but which one is the laser space gun one that‘s really a love story??? 😆 (that really sounds like my cup of tea!!) 2y

Oryx @Caroline2 The Forever War - it is really about the futility of war (I think it's a reaction to Vietman) but it was the relationship between two of the people in it that stuck with me the most. It's only a small part, but it was enough to make it a love story to me. 😁 2y
Caroline2 Hmm, intriguing! Thanks for the heads up. Stacked! 😉 2y
squirrelbrain Yes, August would be great! @Oryx I don‘t have any camping booked that month yet so can do any time…. 2y

Me watching my mom, @Pamgardens almost at the end of this book. 😱 Dying to hear what she thinks of the twist!

JudeCC @jeannasser you read this one!! 😃 3y
jeannasser @WJCintron OMG yesss!! 😱I have a weird obsession with this book. I‘ve re-read it 3 times in my life. It‘s such a different read, and I wish more people knew about it. I can‘t compare it to any other book I‘ve read. It can come off to some people as boring, but when you pay attention to every detail, it‘s an extremely enjoyable read. Update us on how she reacts to the twist. 11 year old me was so shook when the end came 😂 3y
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage @jeannasser @WJCintron She was like “Ooo yeah” Basically not sorry she read it 🤣 3y

Wow...I don't really know if I can articulate my thoughts on what I just finished reading. Sci-fi isn't usually my genre, but I was hooked almost by word one; it was intoxicating from the beginning. I didn't know what I was reading. The only thing I knew was to keep chugging along and not stop. If only adulting didn't get in the way. This original story sucked me into a world that was didn't quit understand. I was left in awe.

Happy Reading!!!

WOW!! When I say I have been railroaded in the way way I mean it. From the beginning I was intoxicating by the story to the point where I couldn‘t stop devouring it. Even though I wasn‘t quite sure as to what as going on I was completed sucked in to this world that is so original. It evokes such strong emotions from me and in the end completed knocked me off my feet and sent my mind reeling.

I unpacked more books and found this one and immediately pulled it out, stating "I remember this one!!"

If you need a quick read (150 pages) and don't mind dystopian, then I fully recommend this one. I can't say anything more about it without spoiling, so I'll just say go read it!

This was a 3-star book for me for the first 90%, but woah was there a payoff for sticking with it. A really quick read with a fantastic end.

#samebookdifferentcovers These both are UK first editions, same publisher, apparently one a ya version, and one 'normal'. Really good story, another excellent dystopian tale with a twist. #aprilbookshowers @RealLifeReading

JazzFeathers The grey cover is lovely :) 8y
Oryx @JazzFeathers yeah I think I prefer that one, and it seems to suit the story better too. 8y
diovival I was just thinking of this book. It's been on my TBR for a while. 8y
