Agorafabulous!: Dispatches from My Bedroom | Sara Benincasa
Sara Benincasa is one of the funniest writers I knowand I know a disturbing number of them. She is also one of the most honest. Sam Apple, author of American Parent and editor-in-chief of The Faster Times Sara is extremely funny and should have many books out so we can all read them and laugh. Margaret Cho Comedian, writer, blogger, radio and podcast host, and YouTube sensation, Sara Benincasa bravely and outrageously brings us Dispatches from My Bedroom with Agorafabulous! One of the funniest and most poignant books ever written about a mental illness, Agorafabulous! is a hilarious, raw, and unforgettable account of how a terrified young woman, literally trapped by her own imagination, evolved into a (relatively) high-functioning professional smartass. Down to earth and seriously funny, Benincasas no-holds-barred revelations offer readers the politically incorrect hilarity they heartily crave, yet is so often missing from your typical, weepy, and redemptive personal memoir.

Such a raw and true look at anxiety and agoraphobia from a candid and relatable point of view. The writing is really captivating and even through the cringe worthy parts, it is hard to put down. This book is honest and brave. #booked2018 #mcwithinvisibleillness

Sara Benincasa is super relatable as she writes about dealing with crippling anxiety. (Also, tweet above is totally something that would panic me too). A really good read.

I totally loved both the quirky humour and the brutal honesty about things I would be terrified to tell one person, let alone publish in a book. I would read all the books by Sara...when will there be more books?!

Couldn't help using a picture of my drugged up puppy recovering from an injury stemming from an anxiety related incident. Even the poor pup occasionally has panic attacks. 😟

What do you do when you open up the wall and it looks like this? Close the door, pick up a book, and pretend it isn't there.

Oh my god what if I finish my book before my hair is done! It never occurred to me that I'd need more than one book at the salon.

I have known such sighs.
I read Benincasa's fantastic Medium piece about her weight and then decided I had to read everything she's ever written. Starting here.

Super funny and very relatable stories of extreme depression and anxiety. It's so nice and relieving to read something I can relate to and resonate my awkward feelings with. Even better to laugh at them.

Is mental illness memoir a genre? If it is, I think it's my favorite one.

I really enjoyed this and appreciated the honesty and hilarity with which she describes her experiences. It's made me determined to confront my own stuff and get after those dreams that live in the corners of our brains.
