The Sorcerer's Companion
The Sorcerer's Companion: A Guide to the Magical World of Harry Potter, Third Edition | Allan Zola Kronzek, Elizabeth Kronzek
6 posts | 9 read | 11 to read
The New York Times bestseller, now fully updated to include the complete seven-volume series. Who was the real Nicholas Flamel? How did the Sorcerers Stone get its power? Did J. K. Rowling dream up the terrifying basilisk, the seductive veela, or the vicious grindylow? And if she didnt, who did? Millions of readers around the world have been enchanted by the magical world of wizardry, spells, and mythical beasts inhabited by Harry Potter and his friends. But what most readers dont know is that there is a centuries-old trove of true history, folklore, and mythology behind Harrys fantastic universe. Now, with The Sorcerers Companion, those without access to the Hogwarts Library can school themselves in the fascinating reality behind J. K. Rowlings world of magic. Newly updated to include Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Sorcerers Companion allows curious readers to look up anything magical from the Harry Potter books and discover a wealth of entertaining, unexpected information. Wands and wizards, boggarts and broomsticks, hippogriffs and herbology, all have astonishing histories rooted in legend, literature, or real-life events dating back hundreds or even thousands of years. Magic wands, like those sold in Rowlings Diagon Alley, were once fashioned by Druid sorcerers out of their sacred yew trees. Love potions were first concocted in ancient Greece and Egypt. And books of spells and curses were highly popular during the Middle Ages. From Amulets to Zombies, youll also learn: how to read tea leaves where to find a basilisk today how King Frederick II of Denmark financed a war with a unicorn horn who the real Merlin was how to safely harvest mandrake root who wore the first invisibility cloak how to get rid of a goblin why owls were feared in the ancient world what really lies beyond the Veil the origins of our modern-day bogeyman, and more. A spellbinding tour of Harrys captivating world, The Sorcerers Companion is a must for every Potter aficionados bookshelf. The Sorcerer's Companion has not been prepared, approved, or licensed by any person or entity that created, published, or produced the Harry Potter books or related properties.

#BookMail today came from the beautiful @Peddler410 !!! She had some books she was getting rid of as well as a few Bookish things like that GoT pillowcase, she was kind enough to let our #LGPOG group choose what we wanted. She sent an extra book as well as tickets for Ripley‘s which is close to us. Thank you so much, Jennifer, for the thoughtful card and these lovely gifts! I truly appreciate them. ❤️ They came in same day as my next rotation 🙌

Literary_Siren I have the same pillowcase. If you want to use it, I advise washing it first, it‘s kind of itchy. 6y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Librocubicularist87 haha I got one in my LitCube box and when I saw she was giving it away I jumped at the chance to have a matching set for a full size bed, but now that I have a little lounge area in my Library that is where they are all going and I love having so many Bookish pillowcases! But, I agree I will be washing it lol mine was slightly itchy as well. 6y
Peddler410 @LitsyGoesPostalOG There are a couple more packages out there. 😉 6y

The suffix "-mancy" refers to any form of divination. This book lists a few kinds of divination that has existed throughout history. Here is a bookish one ? #whowantstogetintobibliomancywithme #godknowsihaveenoughbookstouse

Guess who slept a total of 2 hrs last night 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄 Anyways. This is like an encyclopedia of all the magical and mythical shit that shows up in HP. I learned that arithmancy is an old form of divination, which is a little weird that Hermione liked Arithmancy so much but hated Divination? 🤔 But arithmancy is more about numbers to get to the answer than openly interpreting shapes. Any requests? I'll look it up!

CouronneDhiver Two hours?! Yikes. Grab a coffee. 😳 8y
