“What is truth? What is falsehood? Whatever gives wings to men, whatever produces great works and great souls and lifts up a man's height above the earth - that's true. Whatever clips off man's wings - that's false.”

LiterRohde The quote and photo are influenced by the song‘s imagery and characters, the ideas of burden, temptation, and wanting to do good, as well as the films of Bunuel that inspired the song. I use the following clip of his in the classroom when talking about how imagery and visualization are important to fully understanding what we read (it‘s kind of gross). I never knew it had any relation to this song.

Here are the results so far for #makemereadit. This is turning out to be a pretty interesting challenge as these results are the exact opposite of what I would have chosen. This is good as I‘ll probably get to read a few books that I would have kept putting off.

But poor Last Temptation of Christ hasn‘t got even a single vote.

Interesting novel, very controversial in Christian circles. I haven‘t seen the movie but remember the protests when it was released. Author imagines the human struggle of Jesus to accept his ministry and death. The last temptation occurs on the cross and presents life as he could have had it if he avoided God‘s call. https://cannonballread.com/2018/03/what-if-god-was-one-of-us/

I haven't read this book so I was wondering if it's really considered Christian fiction? My library is on the conservative side so I can just picture the wrong person picking this book up and throwing a fit. 😒

BookwormAHN I've read the book (and seen the movie). I would consider it Chritian fiction. It's definitely not the typical Jesus story but the writing is quite moving. 7y

#junetunz day 7 - #hallelujah

Would like to read the book before seeing the movie, which I've heard is great. I think this might be the only Greek novel I own, though I'm usually pretty bad at keeping track of that sort of thing (I didn't even know it was Greek until I checked to see who the translator was).

Last Temptation of Christ | Nikos Kazantzakis

You will, Judas, my brother. God will give you the strength, as much as you lack ...it is necessary for me to be killed and for you to betray me. We two must save the world. Help me."

Judas bowed his head. After a moment he asked, "If you had to betray your master, would you do it?"

Jesus reflected for a long time. Finally he said, "No, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to. That is why God pitied me and gave me the easier task: to be crucified.
