Forever Is the Worst Long Time
Forever Is the Worst Long Time | Camille Pagn
From acclaimed author Camille Pag?n comes a wry, heartfelt exploration of love and loss. When struggling novelist James Hernandez meets poet Louisa "Lou" Bell, he's sure he's just found the love of his life. There's just one problem: she's engaged to his oldest friend, Rob. So James toasts their union and swallows his desire. As the years pass, James's dreams always seem just out of reach--he can't finish that novel, can't mend his relationship with his father, can't fully commit to a romantic relationship. He just can't move on. But after betrayal fractures Lou's once-solid marriage, she turns to James for comfort. When Lou and James act on their long-standing mutual attraction, the consequences are more heartbreaking--and miraculous--than either of them could have ever anticipated. Then life throws James one more curveball, and he, Rob, and Lou are forced to come to terms with the unexpected ways in which love and loss are intertwined.

Quietly emotional, full of flawed characters, this is a story about love, friendship and family. It was a solid 4 ⭐️ read and my favorite book of September. ❤️📚

A story about love, friendship, and family. This novel is written from the main character, James, to a child, but at first you don‘t know who that child is or what James‘s relationship is to them. This is a quiet book, emotional at times, with flawed characters, and is written very well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ❤️📚

I have become a real fan of Camille Pagán's books, so when I saw Forever Is the Worst Long Time available on Kindle Unlimited, I jumped right in. As in her other novels, Pagán does a brilliant job building a compelling, flawed, realistic protagonist whose growth as a human being lies at the center of the book. In this case, we witness James Hernandez's infatuation with the amazing Lou. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod He meets Lou first upon her engagement to Rob, his best friend, and loyalty makes him push down his feelings, seeking instead other relationships. But James's feelings never go away.⠀

The novel covers decades, written from James to an unseen recipient whose identity I won't reveal here. There are moments that feel predictable, but I loved this book SO much. While I went in expecting a romance--or, at least--⬇️
5y
UnabridgedPod a focus on romantic love, I found instead an examination of friendship and of all the types of love that fuel our lives. I loved the way Pagán defined family unconventionally and the way that James comes to accept people for who they are and the role they can play in his life, even if it's not always the role in which he originally cast them. ⬇️ 5y
UnabridgedPod I've opted so far for listening to all of Pagán's works, and Timothy Andrés Pabon is a fabulous narrator for this compelling, rich novel.

Has anyone else read this book? What are some of your favorite audiobook recommendations?

This book starts off slow and is difficult to capture your attention at first and then BAM! It takes you off guard. Beautiful prose with a truly realistic and heartbreaking story.

I suspect the people we are drawn to are the ones we need most, even if we are never able to fully comprehend why.

I found this slow to get into. I wasn't a fan of how it switched btw 2nd person POV to more of a story and had difficulty connecting with characters, finding them to be shallow. several times I had to remind myself that this was in fact fiction, not a memoir so kudos to the author there. This was a bookclub selection so found myself reflecting on the meaning of many of the quotes used w/in the story, making it less enjoyable read for me.

This was not what I thought it would be but it was so much better. A story of three friends who go through so much, most of it is light-hearted and fun but wow that ending. Be prepared for some emotion.

I originally got this as a gift for my sister because I mistook it for YA - it's not! It is a heartbreaking novel though and you will cry. Life/death/love it's all here. It's all ready and waiting for your tears to stain the pages.
I am not a big romance reader and I found myself absorbed in this one.

I'll have to admit, I was a little skeptical when I read the description for this one. I'm not the biggest romance fan and I thought that's what it would be about. I was VERY WRONG! Although there were a couple romances, it turned out to be so much more than that. Marriage. Divorce. Affairs. Depression and a very unconventional family. This book has all of life's ventures. Keep a look out 😀 release - Feb. 7 17
