The Assassins
The Assassins | Gayle Lynds
3 posts | 3 read
Six master assassins—each a legend in the dark corners of international espionage—band together to steal a fortune from the middle of a war zone. But the mission goes tragically wrong, and they retreat into the shadows. Now THE ASSASSINS are back. Former military spy Judd Ryder is walking to his D.C. home when he spots a man coming out of his row house, who looks like Ryder and is wearing his clothes. As Ryder slows to follow, the imposter is killed in a hit-and-run that's no accident. Was the man the intended victim, or was it Ryder himself? Soon Ryder learns that the key to the mysterious events of the past and to his double's murder is an infamous Cold War assassin, the Carnivore. Two of the last people to see the Carnivore were Ryder and CIA trainee Eva Blake, and someone is using them to lure him out. From Washington D.C. to Marrakech and Baghdad, the assassins wage a final battle—this time against one another—fighting for their reputations and Saddam Hussein's long-missing billion-dollar fortune. In the end, only one can be left standing. Caught in the crossfire, Judd and Eva go on the run while desperately unraveling the tangled past and battling not only for their lives, but for their destinies.

Pickpick

This is the second book in the Judd Ryder & Eva Blake series. Although I really liked this book I felt like it didn't match up to the the first book, The Book of Spies.
The plot is a good one and kept the pages turning. I found all of the characters interesting but liked Judd Ryder and Eva Blake the best. I hope that Gayle Lynds will write more novels featuring these 2 characters because they really go together well.

Started listening to The Assassins by Gayle Lynds following a glowing recommendation from @Tove_Reads . This will be a new author for me so looking forward to this book.

Tove_Reads Have you read Library of Gold? That‘s the first one, and definitely better, not that the Assassins is bad 🙂 (edited) 7y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads No but I have it out of the library (ebook not audio book). I thought the first one was The Book Of Spies that no libraries have, so thought might as well try the second one first. Then heard The Library Of Gold was mentioned, so on further research found this was another title for the Book of Spies. So to cut a long story short 😂, I have now paused on The Assassins whilst I read The Library Of Gold first! (edited) 7y
Tove_Reads I could have told you that! Book of Spies is the Americay version, Library of Gold for Blighty. 7y

Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I do wish they wouldn‘t do that! 7y
Tove_Reads Sucks, right? Weird when they do it. For years ‘Twix‘ was called ‘‘Raider‘ in Finland. In the end they tend to change things to be one and the same. 7y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Wasn‘t helped that fantastic fiction don‘t have these books down as a series! 7y
Tove_Reads Well, spies like us should be able to figure these things out! 7y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Indeed, I‘m obviously a slow or learner spy still. 😂😂😂 (edited) 7y
Tove_Reads Hard for me to see excellent authors like her and Bolton struggling with getting acknowledged. They are waaay better than most, but it doesn‘t matter. 50 shades sells more. (edited) 7y
EadieB @Andrew65 Caught ROOing! 7y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I did pick up Now You See Me by Sharon Bolton from the library yesterday. 7y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yep, stupidly when I had both books. But have stopped book 2 now whilst I read book 1. 7y
Tove_Reads Seriously, Andrew is just trouble 😂 @EadieB 7y
Tove_Reads That Bolton is sooooo good!!! 7y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Aiming to get to it during the week off work. And yes Trouble with a capital T and exclamation mark! 😂 @EadieB (edited) 7y
Tove_Reads Was not able to put it down. Both LoG and NYSM are most likely in my top 10! 7y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I don‘t get 50 Shades or any book with sex in, not needed and especially not needed to be described. After the first one that is what put me off reading the In Death Series by J D Robb, despite the actual plot line being good! @EadieB (edited) 7y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Glowing recommendations! A good couple of weeks ahead of me by the look of it. 7y
EadieB @Andew65 and @Tove_Reads yes that Bolton is a good one! 7y
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads That‘s why I didn‘t like that book YOU. Too explicit for me! That book is porn hidden under the genre psychological suspense! 7y
Andrew65 @EadieB I saw that comment and then took it off my TBR, luckily hadn‘t bought a copy. Totally uncalled for. Real shame as spoils some good books. 7y
EadieB @Andrew65 I wish people who don‘t like books would speak out @ least I got my book from the library! 7y
Andrew65 @EadieB Definitely! 7y
Tove_Reads How‘s the book? 7y
