Tell Tale: Short Stories | Jeffrey Archer
14 posts | 14 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
Nearly a decade after his last volume of short stories was published, Jeffrey Archer returns with his eagerly-awaited, brand-new collection TELL TALE, giving us a fascinating, exciting and sometimes poignant insight into the people he has met, the stories he has come across and the countries he has visited during the past ten years. Find out what happens to the hapless young detective from Naples who travels to an Italian hillside town to find out Who Killed the Mayor? and the pretentious schoolboy in A Road to Damascus, whose discovery of the origins of his fathers wealth changes his life in the most profound way. Revel in the stories of the 1930s woman who dares to challenge the men at her Ivy League University in A Gentleman and A Scholar while another young woman who thumbs a lift gets more than she bargained for in A Wasted Hour. These wonderfully engaging and always refreshingly original tales prove not only why Archer has been compared by the critics to Dahl and Maugham, but why he was described by The Times as probably the greatest storyteller of our age.

Mehso-so

I have read so many better written stories/books by him. This collection just didn't cut it. Not at all a 'must' read.

3/5🌟

So I've just finished the tagged (awesome) little short story collection, so the #shortstoryswap was just too tempting to say no to 🤗 looking forward to shopping for it already! Thanks @CSeydel for organising 😀❤📚

CSeydel Thanks! Excellent! Technically I set the deadline at June 7 (forget just why I did that) but I‘ll have time today so I‘m planning to start working on matches this afternoon 😁👍🏼 6y

I always enjoy Jeffery Archer. This book is shirt stories he has written. At the end is a bonus of four chapters to his next book coming out in November, Heads You Win.

BookishMe I need to reread his books and even get acquainted with the Clifton Chronicles ;D 7y

I‘d never read Jeffrey Archer before, and after reading this I feel confident I‘ll never read another.

This book was given to me as part of our book club Secret Santa. As such I felt compelled to read it.

A twee, predictable, sexist and boring insult to my intelligence.

Next...!

CarolynM One of Archer's fellow Tory MPs, Julian Critchley, wrote a very entertaining thriller in the 1990s in which Archer was abducted from one of his own parties and no-one noticed he was missing. I like to think it was a comment on his writing as well as his personality!😂 7y
MrsMalaprop @CarolynM 😂 I don‘t want to be mean, but honestly?? And people still think he‘s marvelous. I heard his books described as Enid Blyton for adults. Far too generous IMO. One of the short stories had a ‘choose your own ending‘ FFS. So many great writers out there & he‘s on the best seller list!? I‘ll simmer down now...🙂. #booksnob 7y

Jeg I have to admit when he first starting writing I got hooked on his books. Especially his short stories. That was a very long time ago. 😊😊 . I should read him again and see how I feel now. 7y
MrsMalaprop @Jeg Well, you are most welcome to borrow this book! Hope it wasn‘t you who gifted it to me? 🤭 7y
Jeg @MrsMalaprop it wasn‘t me! 🙃 7y

I actually won a book from the Goodreads giveaways! I've enjoyed Jeffrey Archer's other collections of short stories, and am hoping this one won't disappoint. And Mikey-Cat says hello! #catsoflitsy
