3 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
Leah is not happy about being stuck in the hospital for the holidays while her mother is thousands of miles away on a honeymoon with husband number five. Until she meets her hospital roommate, Rebekah, and her big family. Cynical 16-year-old Leah has never known people like this before. From Rebekahs handsome brother, Ethan, who can barely look Leah in the eye, to her kind older sister, Charity, the Amish family captivates Leah with its simple, loving ways. When Leah receives frightening information about her condition, her new friends show her that miracles can happen. And that sometimes angels appear in the most unexpected places. From the Paperback edition.

I just started reading this again. I read it every Christmas. I was sad to discover my original copy is broken now and the first half of the book is gone. No idea what happened. So I bought it on Kindle. It‘s a great book and is the book that led me to fall in love with Amish fiction and Amish life.

3rd grade was classics like LM Montgomery & LM Alcott. 5th grade was historical fiction like Ann Rinaldi & Patricia Beatty. But 4th grade (age 10) was the age of Lurlene McDaniel for me. My best friend & I read them all together & cried over the tragedies. My mom forbid me to read them bc she thought they were too sad (so naturally, I read them more, but sneakily). 😂 Nothing like teenagers dying of cancer to brighten a 10yo's day! #17booklove

Reviewsbylola I loved these too! A little morbid and depressing--kind of an odd niche for an author but they really captivated me. 8y
howjessicareads @Reviewsbylola - a very odd niche indeed, but glad I wasn't alone in being captivated! 8y
