Someone sent me a pretty book maybe from #litsylove but no note and just on a day I needed it.

I had to take Monday off due to stress from last week. We had a new student who melted down for nearly two hours in my space and I couldn‘t face the aftermath on Monday. I‘m glad I‘m seeing a therapist this year, it‘s been the best for my health.

I liked the world, but the main character was just too disjointed. She was kind of stupid and more than a little foolish and would know she was doing something stupid and do it anyway with an internal monologue that did not really explain why. The world and the magic where interesting but with a lame MC, I just couldn‘t get into it. 1/5 stars. Maybe read this if you like Twilight but want something more female centered.

3/5⭐ Like Of Fire and Stars, it seemed many actions happened to further plot & not because it made sense for that character. Villains seemed far too flatly evil & got to those points more quickly than I thought realistic. Development toward ultimate conclusion was full of so many back-and-forths that I disengaged. I did enjoy the often beautiful writing, magic elements, & Asra's struggles to find a family (& all covers in series). #projectSAMS

My days and nights are spent at the edges of battlefields, by the besides of the sick, or hovering at the edges of an accident just before it happens. I am sometimes the only witness when a mortal chooses to take their own life. I am fed by the last heartbeats of the dying, and my duty is to unmake their souls and deliver them back into the magic that exists all around us.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook! Sometimes the characters were frustrating, but they got their stuff together eventually (for the most part lol). But I really loved the romance and seeing the main character discover what real love is. And, most importantly, I enjoyed seeing her learn to love and take care of herself. 🐲

A great book! I enjoyed it even more than the 1st book set in this fantasy universe. The world building, while not knock-your-socks-off, is v. good, the writing is lovely, and the story and characters captivated me from the beginning. It's a story about love and found family above all else. The main romance (between a boy and a girl) is wonderfully done while still asserting the validity and importance of Asra's previous relationship with a girl.

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian Okay I have more bisexual thoughts after writing my Goodreads review: A lot of bisexual women and girls struggle with feeling not queer enough or that their queerness is invalid, especially if they're in relationships with men/boys, and this YA book is a wonderful counterpoint to that without ever being preachy or didactic.

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian It really felt like this YA was doing something new with bisexual representation: there wasn't a love triangle where one interest is a boy and the other is a girl, it wasn't about a girl who has only dated boys falling for a girl for the first time, and the fact that she was bisexual was irrelevant to the plot even though her ex-girlfriend is key to the story. The more I think about it, the more Inkmistress feels like a radical bisexual book. 7y

I like this cover but it makes me think self published. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. There have been some awesome Indy/self published books with awful covers. This isn't awful. It's nice, but it seems unfinished. Almost like a first draft turned into a teacher who says "now give it some omph!

readinginthedark Agreed. I like it, but if it looks self-published, less people will buy it. 7y

I've gotten some pretty great ARCs in the mail recently! Bisexual fantasy YA and a queer anthology that's the sequel to Dear John I Love Jane: Women Write About Leaving Men for Women. #QueerBooks
