Jane Eyre: Manga Classics | Bronte
12 posts | 12 read | 10 to read
As an orphaned child, Jane Eyre is first cruelly abused by her aunt, then cast out and sent to a charity school. Though she meets with further abuse, she receives an education, and eventually takes a job as a governess at the estate of Edward Rochester. Jane and Rochester begin to bond, but his dark moods trouble her. When Jane uncovers the terrible secret Rochester has been hiding, she flees and finds temporary refuge at the home of St. John Rivers. Charlotte Bronte's classic tale of morality and social criticism takes on an entirely new life in this Manga Classic adaptation of Jane Eyre.

What fun! The art added a lot of texture and depth to this classic tale, as well as a hint of silliness. This detracted a bit from the heavy gothic atmosphere of the story, but all the key plot points were there, as well as the sweeping emotion that carries the book. I really enjoyed reading it this way!

As an anecdote to my lingering book sadness, I‘ll try this, picked up on the weekend with great delight…

Another great #24in48!

I only got to read for twelve hours, but had so much fun with my three Jane Eyre inspired reads:

1. Reader, I Married Him
2. Jane Eyre: Manga Classics
3. My Plain Jane

I‘m almost done with that last one and am having so much fun! Thanks for being so awesome, @24in48!

This is how we readathon! #24in48 #babiesoflitsy

This was an excellent adaptation. While I would have preferred more direct quotes from the original, because I‘m apparently a purist, I really enjoyed the manga version. #bookreview #netgalley #arc

I had read the original years ago and it became one of my favourites ever. I was excited to read the manga version and I loved it as much as the original. The plot is so accurate and the illustrations are so gorgeous. If you're someone who's hesitant to read classics, you must surely try reading this manga version. It's super fun and interesting.

The original is a substantial novel and the first third of the book, before reaching Mr Rochester, has always been a challenge. Jane‘s start in life is bleak and sad. The manga version, with its magnificent illustrations, shortens this journey whilst still communicating the emotion of it which I appreciated. The time with Mr Rochester is elegantly done, the familiar lines included and the romance accentuated by the accompanying visuals.

Turns out I really enjoy classics retold as manga. Also, as an ESL teacher, I am starting to wish there was a manga version of everything my students read in their ELA classes to assist in comprehension. The visuals and facial expressions would be so great to aid their understanding!

Ms.Story Very interesting classroom resource!! 7y
