My favorite memoirs are the ones that leave me appreciating and liking the author more at the end of the book...but that actually didn‘t happen for me with this book. It was a good light read that took me back in time though. And he did have a few interesting stories. So there‘s that...

Just finished reading Tolstoy...this is the perfect follow-up to lighten the mood a bit! Dick Van Dyke had me laughing right off the bat! 😂

A memoir by the lovely and talented actor. It was an easy, nice and pleasant read. And that's both a compliment and a criticism. I felt as though Van Dyke glossed over and sanitized some of the more difficult--and therefore, interesting--stories from his life. 3 stars

Finished this ebook last night. I admired how candid he was about his life, and I admired his values in terms of what roles he was willing to take. Even so, it was only ok. Probably the audiobook is better. #memoir #hollywood #showbiz

I liked this one. Read by the man himself in audiobook form, it was just enjoyable in general. I had no idea Van Dyke had struggled with alcoholism. I also didn't know anything about his relationships. The best part of this book though, was just the feeling that he really did just sort of work steadily toward his dream of acting, and it worked out. He comes off as the "everyman actor."

To be honest, I almost bailed. The first part of this book was just a bunch of “I did this” and “I went there” and “I worked with her”...I‘m glad I stuck it out, because there were some engaging sections. He sounds like a pretty decent guy. I admire his dedication to volunteering and his efforts during the Civil Rights movement. I remember watching the DVD show and enjoyed the scenes at home with MTM, but the scenes at work...not so much. 2/5📺s

A living legend and an absolute delight to listen to. I'd starting watching The Dick Van Dyke Show on Netflix a month or so ago, and it is such a classic. Carl Reiner intentionally avoided any current events, slang, etc. so the show would have a timeless feel, and it still works!

Looks and laughter all packaged together. I find it interesting that Mary Tyler Moore is the celebrity crush of one of my brothers. Dick manages to tell his story without telling tales for the most part. The things he does tell seem to be common knowledge. He starts from his earliest memories. I like a memoir that does that. His story carries on through the date of publishing, which was 2011.

For today's prompt I decided to use Goodreads to search my shelved books... I had completely forgotten about this title but now I'm going to see if my library has he audio (if yes, fingers crossed it's read by the author). I've always adored Dick Van Dyke 😍 #LuckInTheTitle #MarchMadness

About to finish this #autobiography of one of my fave actors, Dick Van Dyke. A timely listen, as we lost Mary Tyler Moore yesterday and he praises her as such a good friend his whole life. Impressed by a man who wanted to only do work that he could watch with his kids. So many funny anecdotes and all told in his beautiful memorable voice. Loved it.

This will not be the best book I read this year, but it was charming.
