Half Way Home
Half Way Home | Hugh Howey
Five hundred of us were sent to colonize this planet. Only fifty or so survived. We woke up fifteen years too early, we had only half our training, and they expected us to not only survive ... they expected us to conquer this place. The problem is: it isn't safe here. We aren't even safe from each other.

Panpan

I saw this reissue at B & N on my last visit before the pandemic and decided to roll with it. I'm a big fan of the author. I have the Wool trilogy in my top-twenty and also enjoyed Sand, Beacon 23, and his collection of short fiction Machine Learning. I was familiar with the plot based on the summary on the back cover but did not realize that this was a full fledged YA novel. Some good sci-fi in here, but I‘m not a fan of YA.

This story of genetically designed teenage space colonists had a lot of potential, but it fell flat. Something about the way the action was described seemed more like a passive summary than an adrenaline rush. I did enjoy his earlier book Beacon 23 and don't recall a passive style there... ⭐⭐

This is a quick listen- fast-paced and full of action! It‘s a pretty simple story that hooks you in right away and is a great #audiobook for some fun #AudioColoring! But the characters are rather shallowly developed and I‘ve read similar premises with a more exciting whole. This is my first experience with the author, but I may check out his work aimed at adults.

Laney1733 Read Wool, it is a million times better! One of my all time favorites. 7y
TorieStorieS @Leo1733 Thanks for the tip!! I have the audio version ready and waiting for me!! 7y

This book was.... interesting. A unique idea that just didn't quite pan out for me though.

Pickpick

Certainly interesting and quite captivating. Strangely Dune-ish. I don't know how i feel about the ending but it was a great story.

Ellsbeth I recently read Howey's Beacon 23 and it was pretty good. 8y
