This is not a great love story. This is a story about great love. On a morning that seems just like any other, Robbie wakes in his bed, his wife Emily asleep beside him, as always. He rises and dresses, makes his coffee, feeds his dogs, just as he usually does. But then he leaves Emily a letter and does something that will break her heart. As the years go back all the way to 1962, Robbie's actions become clearer as we discover the story of a couple with a terrible secret - one they will do absolutely anything to protect. Perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes's Me Before You, David Nicholls's One Day and M L Stedman's The Light Between Oceans. 'Julie Cohen's writing is powerful, moving and truly beautiful' Joanna Cannon, author of The Trouble with Goats and Sheep

This story is told backwards. We meet Robbie and Emily in their eighties, the first chapter is Robbie's last day, following on from that each section of the book takes us back a decade or two. It's not until the very last chapter that we can see how their lives have played out, how the domino effect really started.

I enjoyed this a lot, it felt like watching a film in reverse. Great concept, I'd pick up more titles from this author.

Very good. This is a story of secrets and how they can affect a family down the generations if they are revealed. A real page turner as the author slips in references that even though there are plenty of secrets within this family there is a much bigger secret to come and that it could have devastating effects if revealed.

Birdsong28 Once you find out the big secret, which isn't done till the very end, you are left with decision as to how you see the main couples relationship whether it is a good or bad thing. #OrionPublishingGroup 4y
Birdsong28 Totally having a #bookhangover with this one. As I need to process the ending!!! 📚 📖 4y
eraderneely This is the first book I have ever slammed down on the table. I wasn‘t mad, just shocked! My book club is still talking about it a year later. (edited) 4y

‘Together their life was a lie‘

I enjoyed my holiday read and have also enjoyed reading a psycho-thriller ‘He said, She said‘ which centres around an accusation of assault. Slightly predictable ending though!

No idea what to expect from this one- I loved the cover but I haven‘t read anything else by this author!

Let‘s find out! X

Sarah93 I loved this book so much ♥️ 6y

Guys I finished this book 3 days ago I think but I‘ve been too busy to post anything

I just wanna say that I have never wrote a review and I don‘t know how to write one either
So I‘m just gonna say that this is a really really good book and I recommend this novel to everyone. I cried my eyes when I started, while reading and when I was done.

I‘m really enjoying reading this book and I want my friends to read it too but I know they won‘t so me being a good friend I started reading the book for them like they are listening to an audiobook 😁🙂

Remember this, he told himself. Remember how proud of her you are right now. Remember how everyone here trust her. Remember how you would do anything for her. Don‘t forget.

Starting this one for a book club but I don‘t think I‘ll be able to attend. 😢 I started reading last night before bed but I never seem to remember anything when I read in bed at night. Ever. Can‘t tell you anything or what the book is about! 😩😱😴
The cover sure is pretty. Are you an “In-Bed-Before-Sleeping” Reader?

Soubhiville I always read before bed for at least an hour. It‘s my quiet wind down alone time. 7y
BkClubCare @Soubhiville - I rarely do and I wish I could. Nothing seems to make it to my memory bank. I should count myself lucky that I fall asleep fast 7y

1. Our weather is cooler than “normal”.
2. Favorite springtime dish would be asparagus. And pie? 🥧 (pie is year round! But how about pie with whatever fruit is locally available right now - unfortunately I can‘t think of what that should be...)
3. I tag @Nutmegnc - I am looking forward to reading An American Marriage next, and listening to Hunger. I also have Together to read for book club but I don‘t think I will be able to attend the meeting.

Absolutely brilliant read. Was captured by the reviews as lots of comments on how it was wrote back to front - from present to past. I can honestly say I enjoyed every moment from start to finish. Bit of a tear jerker. Pulls on your heart strings but if your after a proper true love story with a few twists and turns thrown in.... this is your book! 📚
