Please Will Someone Help Me?
Please Will Someone Help Me? | Sophie Young
5 posts | 1 read
Sophie Young tells her shocking true story in Please Will Someone Help Me? Sophie Young was born into a dysfunctional family, with a violent mother and father. Sophie was routinely neglected and harmed, starved and left to fend for herself. Social workers were often involved but, despite numerous visits and extensive reports, nothing was ever done. When Sophie was six, her life took another horrible turn: her adored grandfather began to sexually abuse her. Please Will Someone Help Me? is Sophie Young's heartbreaking story about a young girl at the mercy of the adult world. With full access to her social work files, she shows how those who are meant to help children can be blind to the reality of their lives; but how, ultimately, love conquers all. Sophie Young was the eldest of three, born into a dysfunctional family that she fought for years to escape. Now forty years old, she lives in England with her husband and children, and works as a volunteer for a national children's charity.

I am considering reading a horror book for a reading challenge (outside my usual genre). I liked Bird Box because it was more psychological than gory. Do you have any good recommendations for books that are similar? I normally don‘t read horror, so I don‘t know which direction to go. I will definitely abandon something that is overly graphic and gory. Can‘t handle it. Thanks in advance!

jenreads7 @Redwritinghood No, but I will check it out. Thank you! 6y
sprainedbrain You might try this one... it‘s not gory, but it‘s a psychological creeper with all sort of weirdness. 6y

In a serious reading slump.... recommendations anyone??? I‘m in the mood for something that reflects fall/ Halloween season but just can‘t find something to catch my attention. PLEASE HELLLLLPPPPPPP

Marilyncjackson I don‘t have any book suggesting, but I have a suggestion. When I am really in a slump I read something that is not in my normal genre of choice or I read something from a list. PBS has the Great American Read going on. It‘s the top 100 picked books in America. Or you could google a book list or look on here and just randomly pick something. It‘s fun most of the time sometimes you get a gem other times you get a bail. 6y

HELP, #LITTENS!

Good news: I received a 3-month gift subscription to #BOTM from @24in48 !

Bad news: I have NO idea what I'm doing! How do I decide? Do you Google the choices? Do you ask Littens for advice? (Adding a book isn't in my budget right now, so I'm only picking one.) Is there an app? Or do I go through the website? Should I have received an email since it's the 1st of the month?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Rachbb3 There's a website and it's really easy to navigate. 7y
Redjewel_7734 The website is super easy to use & I read the descriptions & go with my gut 😊 7y
BookBabe I always check each book on Goodreads to help me decide! 7y

swishandflick They're usually new releases, so I like reading the blurbs that the judges write for each selection, seeing any early reviews on Goodreads, and going with my gut based on what I usually like. BOTM has introduced me to so many great books I don't know if I'd have read otherwise. Enjoy!! 7y
Reviewsbylola I always check GR and Litsy before I decide. I like to see what everyone else is choosing too. Peer pressure is real! What a cool prize. 7y
DGRachel I check Goodreads, Amazon, and Litsy before I decide. 7y

The next few weeks are going to be a little difficult for me, I think. I'm looking for books that feel like settling into a warm tub but without being trite. Any suggestions?

Centique YA and light fantasy work for me at those times - maybe they'd work for you? I'll tag a few. 7y
Centique Another feel good book that isn't trite is 7y

Question: when I click on "show me" for posts with spoilers, the post toggles from reveal to skull bones so fast that I can't read the post. Is it supposed to be like that? How do I make the post stay open so that I can read it?!

Cinfhen I don't have that issue...sorry! 😐 8y
