Well worth persisting. The author imagines a story of skeletons discovered in the excavation of Pompeii. Like the eruption, the narrative builds slowly - oh so slowly - but rapidly races through the end. I wish I had read it before visiting Pompeii to have sought out the places he names. I guess I‘ll just have to go back!

COMPLETED for #NFNov — “Doomsday Pompeii,” a documentary on National Geographic about the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and destruction of Pompeii in 79 AD. Even the cat was engrossed!

#TIL: after the city was covered in ash and rubble, it disappeared from view and was forgotten for 1,500 years until it was discovered again by accident. So far more than 1,100 bodies have been excavated.

#riotgrams day 3, naked hardcover, I'm not sure if this really counts because I don't think they ever had dust jackets, but it still let's me show them off. Appears to be originally pub. In 1834, my copies are from 1891.

Going literal for #stuckinthepast. I remember seeing my Aunt's slides from her trip to Pompeii and being fascinated by them. #fallintobooks @RealLifeReading
