All were shocked at the announcement of the cursed Lady Claire Cavensham to Lord Alexander Hallworth, the Marquess of Pembrooke, especially since she is already engaged to another unfortunate Lord. Perhaps she will make it to the altar this time with one of these fine gentlemen! Midnight Cryer No one is left breathless at the imperious pronouncement of her engagement to Lord Pembrooke more than Claire. She hardly knows the dangerously outrageous man! But after three engagements gone awry and a fourth going up in glorious flames, she isnt in a position to refuse... Alexander requires the hand of his enemys fiance in marriage in order to complete his plans for revenge. Its his good fortune that the cursed woman is desperate. However, what begins as a sham turns into something scandalously deeper... Full-bodied romance...with intelligence and heart."Cathy Maxwell "Captivating characters and a romance that sizzles."Eloisa James "Will leave you swooning."Sabrina Jeffries The Bad Luck Bride is the first in a new Regency romance series from Janna MacGregor!

Pickpick

Finished this one today and luckily I have #2 ready. New author for me and I‘m really liking her writing.

Booknerd2 Sounds like something my mom might like but is there a lot of raunchy sex? She doesn‘t like that and I don‘t want to send her over the edge. Then I get the look that only a mother can give you and make you feel 7 years old again. 😂🤣😂🤣😊 7y
EmilyChristine @Booknerd2 Haha I know what you mean! This one does have a few sex scenes in it, one of which I would call raunchy. 7y
Booknerd2 I think she can handle that. I‘ll tell her and let her decide. Thank you 😊 7y

This debut novel began intense but then, 25% in, lost its edge. From book cover to plot concept, it had all the right elements for a very promising read. Unfortunately, the author lost focus with the many conflicts introduced and the plot devices began to fall apart. I still could enjoy reading it but as a writer couldn't overlook the flaws. I'm going to wait for the next book in the series; hoping with experience, the writing will tighten up.

LibrarianJen New series are always hard especially if it‘s the authors first book. 7y
Lupa08 @LibrarianJen Oh, most definitely! Writing a series is technically challenging in itself - building a series bible, deciding how much to reveal when, keeping the momentum going so the next book is picked up, etc. I genuinely hope MacGregor is able to refine her storytelling skills soon because she had a story to tell, I could see that from Chapter One. 7y

The cover is pretty. That's the nicest thing I can say about this one. I nearly DNF'd but I was so annoyed I hate read to the end!

The author has thrown everything and the kitchen sink at this - too much conflict, too many misunderstandings/miscommunications. The heroine is fragile and damaged and the hero is a manipulative vindictive stalker. That's a terrible relationship to try to sell as romantic. I nearly threw my kindle across the room.

susanw Yikes! That sounds like all the things I hate about some so called romance novels. Hanks for the warning! (edited) 8y
