The Secret Man
The Secret Man: The Story of Watergate's Deep Throat | Bob Woodward
2 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
In America's capital city, where little stays secret for long, the identity of Deep Throat - the mysterious source who helped Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein break open the Watergate scandal in 1972 - remained hidden for thirty-three years. Now, Woodward tells the story of his long, complex relationship with Mark Felt, the enigmatic former No. 2 man in the FBI who helped end the presidency of Richard Nixon. The Secret Man chronicles the story in intimate detail, from Woodward's first, chance encounter with Felt in the Nixon White House, to their covert, middle-of-the-night meetings in an underground parking garage, to the aftermath of Watergate and decades beyond, until Felt finally stepped forward at age 91 to unmask himself as Deep Throat. It is an intense, 33-year journey and the gripping final chapter to one of the most exciting periods in journalistic and political history.

Pickpick

Finally, closure. Bobs blow-by-blow relationship with his Nixon Watergate source, "Deep Throat." A reveal and an ending to a decades ling mystery better than expected.

Currently on a #Watergate kick.

Mcoun How appropriate! 8y
ValerieAndBooks Didn't know there was more on this topic by Woodward and Bernstein! 8y
Aleida Which is best? 8y
BookishMarginalia @Aleida All are good. I suppose All the President's Men is the most comprehensive. I like the stories because it's a good overview (and shows how the scandal was covered in real time). The other 2 fill out the story by focusing on Deep Throat and on the aide who revealed Nixon tapes existed. Those books also expose much more of the general corruption & dysfunction in Nixon admin. Useful perspective. 8y
Izai.Amorim Nixon didn't have NSA capabilities. If he had had, he would have gotten away with it. 8y
