#AboutAugust Day 21: It can be deduced from the narrative how the lack of awareness and education about the ill-effects of plastic is an even bigger issue in the community. Rather than despair, Isatou took it upon herself to transform garbage into something useful and beautiful – with the support, #assistance, and active help of a few women who believed in her vision. Three and a half stars. The fact that this is based on a true story of a woman who saw a problem, took concrete action, and made a difference is great. The text itself is just not that well-written, though. It is told in an oddly constructed way. Love the art.

When goats in Isatou Ceesay‘s village started dying from the plastic bags they consumed, she and other Gambian women started looking for solutions. With imagination and ingenuity the women found a way to recycle the bags, create products to sell, and clean up their village.

This inspiring true story is a quick read and great for preschoolers or grade schoolers.

One Plastic Bag by Isatou Ceesay and The Recycling Women of The Cambia an Eureka Honor Award for 2015 in the Nonfiction Children‘s Category . A book of solutions, a young girl name Isatou starts picking up plastic bags that were tossed with garbage . She cleaned them up and made purses .A terrific book to teach our children the importance of recycling.A inspiring and motivating story for students, their ideas can be a great impact in our world,

ERodriguez For this book , I would read with the class and then guide the class to be “Earth Day Poets”. They will make a cinquains or five line poem. Scholastic.com/teachers/article/teaching-content/grades-2-3-earth-day-activities 6y
