Come to the Edge
Come to the Edge: A Memoir | Christina Haag
8 posts | 2 read | 10 to read
The Love Story of JFK Jr. and Christina Haag New York Timesbestseller When Christina Haag was growing up on Manhattans Upper East Side, John F. Kennedy, Jr., was just one of the boys in her circle of prep school friends, a skinny kid who lived with his mother and sister on Fifth Avenue and who happened to have a Secret Service detail following him discreetly at all times. A decade later, after they had both graduated from Brown University, Christina and John were cast in an off-Broadway play together. It was then that John confessed his long-standing crush on her, and they embarked on a five-year love affair. Glamorous and often in the public eye, but also passionate and deeply intimate, their relationship was transformative for both of them. Exquisitely written, Come to the Edge is an elegy to first love, a lost New York, and a young man with an enormous capacity for tenderness, and an adventurous spirit, who led his life with surprising and abundant grace.

If Goodreads had an “On This Day” feature, it would tell me that six years ago today, drawn by its cover, a reference to my favourite actor, and a review that promised this was more than just a celebrity memoir, I picked up this book. I didn‘t know I‘d be up till 2 am reading several nights in a row, had no idea what this book would come to mean to me. It‘s beautiful, and heartbreaking, and infused with hope, and truly special.

ContraryMary That would actually be a really cool feature! 7y

My latest for Book Riot is a group post in which several of us answer this question. How would you answer it? https://bookriot.com/2017/02/16/books-we-want-to-make-the-whole-world-read/

If Goodreads has an On This Day feature, it would have told me that five years ago yesterday I started reading this gorgeous book. Never in a hundred years would I have guessed what it would come to mean to me.

(My review is here: http://brusselsclaire.blogspot.com/2012/01/book-review-come-to-edge-by-christian... and I also wrote about it here http://bookriot.com/2016/01/08/on-buying-the-same-book-again-and-again-2/)

DrexEdit What a great story about the power of books. So glad you found one with so much meaning to your life! ? ❤️ (now I also want an "on this day" feature on goodreads.) 8y

When you scream so loudly about someone else's good news that your roommate thinks you must have just heard from your agent or something.

No matter how many times you fall in love, it always comes at you sideways. It always catches you by surprise.
