Savannah resident Mercy Taylor may now be in control of the South's most powerful family of witches, but she's struggling to master her newfound magic. Pregnant with her first child and still reeling from a heartbreaking betrayal, she just wants to be able to use her supernatural abilities without accidentally destroying dishes or blasting the doors off buildings. But when Mercy's long-presumed-dead mother suddenly returns, begging Mercy to keep her presence under wraps, the witch wonders how many secrets her family is hiding and who she can really trust. And when the danger around her intensifies to deadly levels, Mercy knows she must discover the truth behind her family's magic before it destroys her.

I found the MC more irritating than I did with the 1st book, but she had a great character arc. The author did a great job subtly summarizing what happened in book 1 without pulling me out of the current story, which was good because it‘s been a while since I listened to that one. The story has plenty of suspense, tragedy, magic, and growth between the characters. There are also some NSFW scenes so I couldn‘t listen when my kids were in the car.

Seriously, this series is so damn underrated. I LOVE everything. The witches, the secrets, the murder, the family drama, the romance, the magic. It‘s all so good and we continue to be taken on this twisty-turny ride. I‘m always on the edge of my seat wondering what is going to be revealed next. What is going to happen next?!

Check out this great series by J. D. Horn. The Line; The Source; The Void. I live the magic system in this series, then there is the charm of Savanah itself, and really interesting characters. The first two books have ended in ways that compelled me onto the next.

Fun read and great next step for Mercy Taylor. The action moved pretty fast and some little sub plots helped to carry the overall story. The narration also supported the storytelling nicely.

Libby1 Beautiful photos. What kind of tree is this? 7y
Kathrin @Libby1 I have no idea... they are pretty common here in SC. 7y
