The Shape of Ideas
The Shape of Ideas: An Illustrated Exploration of Creativity | Grant Snider
What does an idea look like? And where do they come from? Grant Sniders illustrations will motivate you to explore these questions, inspire you to come up with your own answers, and like all Gordian knots, prompt even more questions. Whether you are a professional artist or designer, a student pursuing a creative career, a person of faith, someone who likes walks on the beach, or a dreamer who sits on the front porch contemplating life, this collection of one- and two-page comics will provide insight into the joys and frustrations of creativity, inspiration, and processno matter your age or creative background.

This made me smile this morning (especially the shoot for the stars panel) so I thought I‘d share!

“This Year
I will dream big.
I will follow my heart.
I will face my fears.
I will find my true self.
I will rise above all obstacles.
I will shoot for the stars.
I will live with no regrets.
I won‘t let anything stand in my way.”

I‘m not really the creative type but I still enjoyed this. I would recommend this to writers, artists, etc and it would be a great addition to a classroom library to get and keep kids‘ creative juices flowing.
There were a few coffee cameo appearances which, of course, I loved.

3.5 ⭐️ for me

Oh the quandary we survive through!

This is a panel from Grant Snider's 'Ode to an unfinished book'. Check the full comic here - https://www.newyorker.com/humor/daily-shouts/ode-to-an-unfinished-book

readherwriteher I am doing this right now. Seriously, it‘s like a sign. It kind of freaked me out. 😶 6y
Purrfectpages The struggle is real. 6y
Tanisha_A @readherwriteher Oh no, this isn't helpful at all. 😆 6y

I just saw someone post this to Facebook--now I definitely need this book. I think these stages are pretty accurate so far! I've recently entered Stage 8! 😆

kyraleseberg I just started stage 8 this year thanks to Litsy 😝 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @kyraleseberg Hahaha oh yeah, it's definitely because of Litsy. Stage 7 came naturally a little while after college, but Stage 8 needed some prompting....I was so happy not to be hoarding books...oh well!! 7y
LeahBergen I've been stuck in stage 8 for YEARS. 😆 7y

Natasha.C.Barnes @LeahBergen Yeah I anticipate that for myself as well...we should think of another intermediary stage. 7y
BookwormAHN I'm in stage 8 with a little stage 9 with the nephews. 7y
Caroline2 I'm in between stages 8 and 9; I can't stop buying books for me and the kids! 🙄 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Caroline2 I'm dying to build the best collection of children's literature the world has ever seen and I don't even know any kids! 😆 7y
Caroline2 @Natasha.C.Barnes 😂 brilliant!! 7y

Sorry for spamming so many posts, haha, but I figured I'd get all my book-related thoughts out now.

"The Shape of Ideas" by Grant Snider is the other book I'm currently reading.

For those of you who don't know, I'm a graphic designer (a struggling, college graduate, millennial graphic designer, ha) and I've been in SUCH a creative slump recently. But this book is helping me get out of it and I truly recommend!! ?✨

Isn't this great? The whole book is filled with delightful illustrations about the power --and anxiety-- of creativity.

HotMessJess I like that it highlights the anxiety of it. 8y
brennahawleycraig I had no idea he had a book out! I went to college with him; he drew on our newspaper staff! 8y

What stage are you at? I'm split between hoarding books like a dragon and sharing them with my three year old. (Source: incidentalcomics.tumblr.com)

Simple illustrations bring to life the obstacles we face and hopefully overcome throughout the creative process.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
