Pickpick

Book was very enjoyable. Light , reach and interesting without being too academic or brainy) but at the same time gives something to think about.🎬🎬🎬🎬

If you want to write (including screenplays) get this book!

"The Hero archetype represents the ego's search for identity and wholeness"(29).

"All the villains, tricksters, lovers, friends, and foes of the Hero can be found inside ourselves. The psychological task we all face is to integrate these separate parts into one complete, balanced entity"(30).

"A book goes out like a wave rolling over the surface of the sea. Ideas radiate from the author's mind and collide with other minds, triggering new waves that return to the author. These generate further thoughts and emanations, and so it goes."

I always write my first couple of drafts by hand, although I usually use a pen instead of these awesome pencils. 📝 #emojinov

Behold, the Monomyth! Whose current reads or #NaNoWriMo works in progress fit this formula?

JazzFeathers Well, can't say my story oerfectly match the firmula, but it's close enough. Besudes, l plan to address structure only after l'll have written the first draft 😉 7y

Any fellow writers out there getting revved up for #NaNoWriMo? I'll be doing some edits and rewrites this month. Maybe start a new project. A coworker recommended Vogler's manual. The writing is a little stiff, but it's a screenwriting guide with nuggets of Joseph Campbell's mythic wisdom sprinkled throughout. Need a little inspiration and a good kick to the pants. Might work.

Wonderful book about character building. It is inspired by Joseph Campbell's book, Hero with a thousand faces, that is exploring mythology, but Vogler uses these references explicitly as tools for writers.
P.S. The cover looks like the map from Westworld 😋🤔

Just starting the book itself after the 1842 introductions and prefaces, but hopefully the content will be as fabulous as the artwork!

brendanmleonard This is one of the few practical writing guides I love. 8y
Texreader @jmkeene This page is gorgeous!! Are there more like it? It may be worth getting the book for this artwork! 8y
TheLondonBookworm That's beautiful, I want it just for the cover now! 😈 8y
jmkeene @Texreader The whole book is filled with illustrations. I turned the page from the one I posted, and there were two more drawings just as good. 8y
