The Princess and the Pea
The Princess and the Pea | Hans Christian Andersen, Kari James
20 posts | 5 read
Simple text and captivating illustrations are paired with beautiful music and fun sound-effects to help tell the classic tale of "The Princess and the Pea." Prince Fastidious travels the world to find his perfect princess. But something is not quite right about any of them. They either talk too much, or not at all. Some are too old for him, or too young. Others are spoiled or have too many noisy, little dogs. Find out what happens when Princess Rose accidentally comes to the castle at night because of a fierce storm. How does she prove to the Queen that shes a real princess? A happy ending adds interest to this fairy tale and encourages a lifelong love for reading.

This is a cute story of a young girl who proves her royalty by sensing a pea beneath layers of mattresses. Another classic, charming story that has themes of showing true identity. Children will love hearing this timeless story of the princesses many sleepless nights.

This would be great to talk to kids about when going over that actions, even tiny, can have consequences and could put a large impact on something. Good and bad.

Pickpick

The princess places a pea at the bottom of her mattress. It is making a big impact and causes the princess to keep stacking mattresses to be more comfortable.

“I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It‘s horrible!”

This is one of the first fairytales I remember hearing a kid. This story helped spark my love of princess stories and that‘s what got me so into Disney today. I would like to share this story with my future students to hopefully spark that same feeling for them.

“there was something not quite right about them all” talking about princesses the prince had seen before. I forgot to take a picture but it was a princess playing guitar with her mouth wide open that was funny

This would be good for younger kids who have never heard the story becuase it is the classic version and not a varient so they won‘t get bored

My favorite childhood Fairytale: The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Anderson and Illustrated by Jana Christy. This fantasy fairytale TL is a story about a prince trying to find his true princess by seeing if she felt a pea through 20 mattresses! It‘s a fun story for a RA. I would utilize ESL strategy #1 and UDL 8.3 you can cross concept this story with math too. Linked is a lesson plan that has awesome suggestions.

DrSpalding This is a classic and I like that you are thinking in an inter-disciplinary way… Language arts and math! You truly can use great books to teach anything. 5y

Trying to finish this Princess and the Pea photo for my daughter this evening! Litsy crops it so that you can't see the castle on the hill in the right corner. She insisted on wearing this paper crown someone gave her from a restaurant 😉

When I was single, I used to surround myself with books on my bed. It was like a mass slumber party with friends and was almost better than spooning.

riversong153 I'm recently separated and find myself sleeping with at least 2 books in my bed each night. All the while thinking, I hope I'm not the only one that does this ☺️ 7y
8little_paws @riversong153 I'm recently #foreveralone and I do this every night! 7y

BookishBeth @riversong153 I think I used to top out at 10. Rolling into sharp corners in the middle of the night was great. When I got married, my husband insisted on having a spot in bed, too 🙄. So as a compromise I switched to ebooks. The kindle sleeps between my husband and me though I don't think he knows it. 7y
Liatrek I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only who's books dominate one side of the bed 😊 I joke they are the only thing hard and stimulating in bed 🤣 7y
BookishBeth @Liatrek 🤣😂sometimes I have to agree!!😂🤣 7y
riversong153 @BookishBeth I 💚it! Lol. 7y
Gina I found my 16yr sleeping with one of my Harry Potter books this morning! 7y
kspenmoll My husband still has to move mine on occasion to get in the bed.... 7y
BookishBeth @kspenmoll I see nothing wrong with that. Here I tell people, "You have thumbs, use them!" when it comes to picking anything up. 7y
