MrsGagnonreads2024 My 6 year old niece loves this book yes it can be considered “heavy” but my sister explained to her that some people can be mean and hurt animals and other people but most are kind like the lead character 6y
GatheringBooks @Cinfhen the art is gorgeous, indeed! i hold a pretty liberal view when it comes to picturebooks for children- i ascribe strongly to reader autonomy and the fact that children are able to self-censor, rather than adults serving as stringent gatekeepers as to what we perceive to be heavygoing or appropriate for them. oftentimes, how adults perceive books is waaay diff from the way young readers interpret them bec of life experiences. 😍😘📚 6y

GatheringBooks @Endowarrior21 very good to hear this! like i mentioned in my earlier comment, i feel strongly about reader agency and the fact that adults and children have varying interpretations about messages, themes in books. and that ultimately kids are the best judge of what is heavygoing or not for them. 6y
