This Will End in Tears
This Will End in Tears: The Miserabilist Guide to Music | Adam Brent Houghtaling
6 posts | 2 read | 7 to read
Sad music moves us like nothing else, and despite its gloomy nature it also has the curious power to make us happy. In This Will End in Tears: The Miserabilist Guide to Music, author Adam Brent Houghtaling explains why, while offering up a compendium of history's masters of melancholy and the greatest sad songs of all time, featuring artists across genres and through timefrom torch songs to country weepers to emo classics. Loaded with recommended playlists and insights into our favorite sob songs, This Will End in Tears is a fascinating immersion into the "miserabilist" genre, a musical marker with increasing resonance.

Pickpick

Townes Van Zandt was asked why his songs were so sad,”Oh, they‘re not all so sad. Some of them are just hopeless. The other ones are sad.”Great Book ! I read it straight through, but since it is set up alphabetically, you could just dip in if you like. In this YouTube/Spotify world, just look them up as you read. Every genre & era is here.As Rob Gordon said in High Fidelity “what came first-the music or the misery?”

TrishB Nothing better than a sad song!! 7y

#newyearreads #1stbookof2018 This has been on my TBR since I bought it years ago. I have even used it for several Litsy prompts and haven‘t read it yet.One of main resolutions is to read what I already have. All of us have books in the permanent library, but I am drowning in books I mean to read and may not keep.Time to get busy and read these puppies!

tomes4gnomes Oh yeah, this book sounds right up my alley. Regarding drowning in TBR piles at home, I just went through all of my shelves and culled 45 titles that I‘ve had for so long, I‘m not even interested in reading them anymore. It felt liberating. And it means there is room for the new! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m drowning too!! Are we hoarders are collectors?!?! 🤣😂🤣😂 7y
Leftcoastzen @tomes4gnomes @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I am about to do a cull. Will trade some , pass some on to friends , donate and hopefully be surprised by a title or two I‘m looking for.🤣😀 7y

That was 2017! I raised my goal to 90.I read long books often, and what brings down my page total are poetry titles and a smattering of graphic novels.Want to get to the many classics I have yet to read.Littens over the arch of the year lead me to many titles I may have missed otherwise. Many thanks to all , and a Happy New Year!🎆🎈🍾
