#MarchMunchies #CherryPie 🍒Cherry pie is a specialty of Charlotte, the MC of this WWII historical. I like unique perspectives in WWII novels & this one takes place in a Wisconsin farm community where German POWs were brought in to work the harvest. Some heavy themes & I didn't find Charlotte too likable, but an absorbing story & an interesting look at the war from the home front. I'm not a pie maker so I paired my review with fresh cherry sauce.
By chapter three, I'm totally sucked into the WWII homefront dramas facing good people along the Great Lakes.
I loved this one; can't you tell? Complete fiction but based on true events during World War II when German POWs were sent to help harvest crops in Wisconsin. This story follows a farming family struggling with a son in the war, a daughter growing up, and some problems that arise when they push for the POWs to work in their cherry orchard. It's not perfect and there are a few cliches, but it is a gorgeous, honest, and original story.
This was about two hours ago. Water higher now. Readathon continues with historical fiction.
I have recently discovered my love for world war 2 fiction and this book did not disappoint. Set in my home state of Wisconsin and the cherry orchards of door county... This book vividly described how the war affected those still stateside. Love, family, secrets and what we do in the face of difficulties are prominent themes in the book!
