Has anyone read this? According to my reading log I read it a decade ago, but I have no memory of it. If I had to bet, I'd say I probably picked it solely based on the title. #TBTReads

julesG 😀😀 6y
LibrarianRyan Yes. It was popular reading when I was in middle school or high school I think. I prefer the authors other book The Pigman. 6y
LibrarianRyan Ok I just looked it up. Originally published 1969. So weird. 6y

HOW AMERICA INVENTED ‘YOUNG ADULT‘ FICTION FOR A NEW KIND OF TEENAGER. Read on The Smithsonian website. Here are two books that mattered so much I‘ve kept them since I was a teen.

RaimeyGallant Super interesting. 7y

Pickpick

This was pretty controversial for its time, with discussion of premarital sex, how to make a boy stop if he gets too insistent- suggest going to get a hamburger!, abortion... pretty tame for now, but I‘m sure it raised a stir back in the day. It was a good first choice for #horrifiedreads

Sace I remember this one! I think I read my big sister's copy. 7y
Laura317 So THAT'S where the title came from. I had no idea. 7y
Soubhiville @Laura317 pretty ridiculous huh? Think it‘d work with veggie burgers? I‘m vegetarian 😜 7y
LibrarianRyan I'm not fully awake and thought your dog was a kangaroo. 7y
Soubhiville @LibrarianRyan 🤣 I‘m so glad she‘s not! It is a funny angle, I see that. 7y

#horrifiedreads
I went to McKay‘s today and picked up a few 80‘s and very early 90‘s books to join the... horror? Fun? We‘ll see.
This one might be a stretch, as it was originally published in 69, but this edition and this cover (OMG THIS COVER YOU GUYS!) came out in 84.
Really it was the title that got me. How completely ridiculous is that?

LauraBrook This cover is everything. 7y
Pruzy The horror? So it‘s about cannibalism? 7y
AlaMich I remember that book from my tween years. I never read it but always wondered what the weird title referred to. 7y

LauraBrook And dude, is that a big Pound Puppy behind it? 🤘🏼🤘🏼 7y
Bookzombie @LauraBrook I think so! I wish I still had my Pound Puppy. 7y
Missusb Okay I confess to reading every Zindel I could get my hands on... we didn't have a lot of YA back then. Mind you he and Cormier pushed boundaries. 7y
Librariana Ohmahgosh, this takes me back!! When I was in 8th grade, we read 7y
Librariana ⬆ And I remember it so fondly! If my memory serves me right, he also wrote "The Undertaker's Gone Bananas" and 7y
Dorianna Wait the same guy who wrote The Pigman wrote this? I must find it and read it. 7y
LeahBergen I read this! 😂 7y
LibrarianRyan I think I read that in school and that cover was relatively new. 7y
TK-421 Oh, wow! I remember that title, but I don't think I ever read the book! 7y
Soubhiville @Pruzy no, it‘s YA. Some Littens are reading old YA this month, from mostly the 80‘s, under the hashtag #horrifiedreads, after unearthing a bunch of childhood books with horrible covers and being encouraged to reread them to see if they holdup at all. Check out the hashtag for more info and some laughs! 7y
Soubhiville @LauraBrook @Bookzombie yes that‘s my pound puppy! He has been through a lot- he was my best buddy from age 11; he survived a house fire my senior year because a bookshelf fell onto him and protected him from the flames; he has huge stitches from my first real puppy chewing on him. My only surviving childhood toy ❤️🐶 His name is Weathersfield. 7y
Soubhiville @Missusb @Librariana @Dorianna @LibrarianRyan @TK-421 the title is familiar to me but I don‘t think I‘ve read it before. McKay‘s had several other titles by him, this one sounded wackiest to me. 7y
Laura317 Which McKays did you visit? I've heard the one in Chattanooga is the best. We've got one nearby in Knoxville. I think there's one in Nashville, too. 7y
LauraBrook @Soubhiville That‘s so sweet, I‘m so glad he‘s been with you all this time! And Weathersfield might be the coolest name ever! 7y
Soubhiville @Laura317 are you in Knoxville? I‘ve just moved back to Knoxville! 7y
Laura317 I'm like 20 minutes from Knoxville! We should try to get a Litsy meet up together. 7y
Soubhiville @Laura317 I would love to do a Litsy meetup! 7y
Laura317 @Soubhiville Shoot me an email - we will try to find a time to get together (and hopefully find some more local Littens). chinamom64@gmail.com 7y
