Short but impactful. Roy writes about the complex politics of her country and the levers of capitalism that have helped corrupt it. Chilling accounts of how the people who dare to protest are then persecuted by the State.

batsy I found this to be really good, as well! And succint. Very helpful. 4y

Brief and eye-opening. Main issue: too short. It's a collection of linked essays and she writes about complex political issues with clarity. Sometimes this can come off a little basic, but it's a solid primer for people who want to know more about the politics that inform her second novel. This is essentially the nonfiction version of it. I found the sections on the increasingly far-right Indian security state & Kashmir especially useful.

Suet624 Good to know. Thanks - I'll be tracking this down. 8y
batsy @Suet624 I hope you find it worthwhile! It's short but does a great job of making one very angry at the state of things. 8y
Suet624 Honestly, I'm already pretty angry and have been for quite a while about the state of affairs. 8y
batsy @Suet624 I know what you mean 😠😔 8y
