We've all heard of The Midas Touch, who better to turn that tale on its head with a heavy dose of Sci-Fi than Adventure Time's Ryan North? Fatima and her space crew have decided to return to Earth--a planet completely sectioned off, abandoned, and covered in gold--to find out exactly what happened to this once thriving planet and see if they can use that knowledge against the evil empire that's tracking them down. As luck would have it, they just landed the most powerful weapon in the universe: some ancient dead guy's body. We have been having so much fun with writer Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics, To Be Or Not To Be: That Is The Adventure) and artist Braden Lamb and Shelli Paroline on ADVENTURE TIME that we couldn't resist the opportunity to publish a new original idea of his. And it is original.

THIS WAS SO GOOD! Thousands of years after Midas's golden touch transformed the whole Earth to gold, two spacefaring WOC and a gay dinosaur arrive to harness his power and use it as a weapon against a villainous galactic regime. They're all super cute and well-intentioned, until things go horribly wrong. It's the ultimate blend of humour and terrifying intensity. I hope I can source the next volume soon.

xicanti @jpmcwisemorgan it's not QUITE as racey as Chuck Tingle, but at one point the dinosaur and his partner do hug while they're sight-seeing. 7y

I'm trying to knock four comics off La TBR before I start my PAPER GIRLS reread/catch-up. Last night's selection was SKANDALON, which I borderline disliked. Let's hope THE MIDAS FLESH is more my thing. Artists Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb are new-to-me, but writer Ryan North's Squirrel Girl is one of my forever faves, so fingers crossed.
