The Adventures of Fat Rice
The Adventures of Fat Rice: Recipes from the Chicago Restaurant Inspired by Macau | Abraham Conlon, Adrienne Lo, Hugh Amano
2 posts | 2 read | 7 to read
With 100 recipes, this is the first book to explore the vibrant food culture of Macauan east-meets-west melting pot of Chinese, Portuguese, Malaysian, and Indian foodwaysas seen through the lens of the cult favorite Chicago restaurant, Fat Rice. An hours ferry ride from Hong Kong, on the banks of the Pearl River in China, lies Macaua modern, cosmopolitan city with an unexpected history. For centuries, Macau was one of the worlds greatest trading ports: a Portuguese outpost and crossroads along the spice route, where travelers from Europe, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and mainland China traded resources, culture, and food. The Adventures of Fat Rice is the story of how two Chicago chefs discovered and fell in love with this fascinating and, at least until now, unheralded cuisine. With dishes like Minchi (a classic Macanese meat hash), Po Kok Gai (a Portuguese-influenced chicken curry with chourio and olives), and Arroz Gordo (if paella and fried rice had a baby), now you, too, can bring the eclectic and wonderfully uniqueyet enticingly familiarflavors of Macau into your own kitchen.

#TBRtemptation post 2! With 100 recipes, this may be the first book to focus solely on Macau (the "Las Vegas of the East") cuisine--a fusion of Chinese, Portuguese, Indian, and Malaysian--all through the cult-favorite, wildly popular Chicago restaurant, Fat Rice. Comic book-style illustrations and gorgeous photography abound. From Hong Kong French Toast to Po Kak Gai to Arroz Gordo. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

Pickpick

I love books that are about food but are not exclusively recipes. This book takes the reader on a trip to Macau and explains how it became such an intriguing melting pot of cultures. We get to meet the people and, of course, there are recipes. Unfortunately a little more care needed to be taken with the illustrations. I could not even find a higher quality cover pic.
Managed to find a decent cover!
