When I decided to let my hair be its own natural gray at 40, this book was inspiring to me. There are so many beautiful women within its pages. My little self-portrait doesn't do much justice to women with gray (I prefer to say silver!) hair. #drawme
rachelm Love it!! I plan to be a silver fox. My mother looks so gorgeous now that she let it be undyed! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @rachelm Good call! My mom was my inspiration as well. I've never regretted it! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm in on that plan too! I stopped dying and perming my hair many years ago, and my hair has never felt better in my whole life. I'd never go back. One of the few things I'd tell my younger self if I could, just never start down that road..love what you have! 8y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thanks. I started going gray at 18 but, like you, dyed for a long time. It's so much healthier! 8y
Bookzombie I also love it! I definitely starting to have some silver in my hair and hope I'm a silver fox too. 🙂 8y
Jhullie I don't mind the gray, it's the new wiry consistency that bothers me. Frizz central! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Bookzombie I hope that for you too - don't forget, it's the attitude that ultimately makes it so! 👏🏻👏🏻 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Jhullie I hear ya. Since my hair is curly, it isn't obvious to me. I'm all about keeping them under control as well! 8y
BookishFeminist This looks fantastic!' 8y
CouronneDhiver Good for you! I plan to do the same... Grey curls are so pretty 8y
Cinfhen I'm super impressed with your artistic skills 👍🏻😊💜 8y
Dragon 👍 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BookishFeminist @Cinfhen @Dragon Thank you! 😘 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CouronneDhiver You should do it! I love my hair. 😎 8y
Zelma 👍 I used to dye my hair for fun in college but stopped after a few years. No desire to color my gray. I like the way it looks and I am pretty natural in all things (no hair product, no make-up). I like my style and accept how I look as is. 😁 8y
Gezemice I have only tried highlights in parts of my hair once, and it dried it so much - I have dark hair so it needed bleaching - that I decided never again! I don't even dry my hair, just wash it and let it air dry. I also decided when I get gray hair I will dye it blue. I always wanted blue hair but I don't want the bleach, plus not good at job interviews to have blue hair. But when I am old? Who cares! Old lady earned to have whatever color she wants. 8y
ValerieAndBooks I stopped coloring my hair about 5 years ago. No regrets! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Zelma Sounds like a healthy, happy plan! 👏🏻👏🏻 @Gezemice I've had colored streaks put in my hair and it's fun! One of my friends has a pure white beard and uses colored chalk to change his for costumes and parties. Want to try that too! (edited) 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ValerieAndBooks Good for you! It's good to be ourselves. 👏🏻👏🏻 8y
Flaneurette I'm in the process of growing mine out and have the dreaded skunk stripe! It is very encouraging to read other women's experiences with going grey 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Flaneurette The phase you're in is the hardest part. Keep going, it gets better! 8y
readinginthedark My sisters keep trying to convince my mom to dye her hair, and it's so ridiculous! She's really so beautiful with the silver/white/grey mix she has! 8y
readinginthedark @Flaneurette Thirty or forty years ago, when my grandma's hair started changing, she had a stripe, too. Everyone thought she did it on purpose and kept telling her how stylish it was! Focus on that! 😉 8y
Merethebookgal I started going gray at 14, so I've been coloring my hair for a long time...longer than not coloring at this point 😆. It's a really cool platinum silver, but it's mostly on the right side of my head at the moment. Maybe once I'm silver all over I'll give it a shot because dying it is such a pain! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @readinginthedark I'm glad your mom has you in her corner. It's such a personal decision, and I hope your sisters can chill so she can decide. 💕 (edited) 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Merethebookgal So much like my story! I saw my first gray at 18 and knew I'd stop dying once I got a high enough percentage. I think it'd be cool if you let it be even now. But it's so personal to you and your life! 👏🏻👏🏻 8y
