The Hollow Kingdom
The Hollow Kingdom: Book I -- The Hollow Kingdom Trilogy | Clare B. Dunkle
2 posts | 20 read | 9 to read
"She had never screamed before, not when she overturned the rowboat and almost drowned, not even when Lightfoot bucked her off and she felt her leg break underneath her with an agonizing crunch. But now she screamed long and loud, with all her breath." Hallow Hill has a strange and tragic history. For thousands of years, young women have been vanishing from the estate, never to be seen again. Now Kate and Emily have come to live at Hallow Hill. Brought up in a civilized age, they have no idea of the land's dreadful heritage-until, that is, Marak decides to tell them himself. Intelligent, pleasant, and completely pitiless, Marak is a powerful magician who claims to be a king-and he has very specific plans for the two new girls who have trespassed into his kingdom. The Hollow Kingdom is a 2004 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

I am about to start Wintersong, an anticipated YA release, but the description reminded me of this YA I loved as a teen.

398.2 I have been meaning to read Wintersong. I mean who doesn't like a story with goblins. 😀 8y
mdemanatee @398.2 Exactly! Goblin King? Yup, I'm in. 8y

Pickpick

#FunFridayPhoto I chose Kate from the Hollow Kingdom trilogy as the character I can identify with. Not the part that she was fair and stunning, though. She didn't love easily but when she did, she loved with all she had. (Applied to every kind of love; her sister, her husband and the goblins.) She was strong, not physically but spiritually. And if only I had a husband like hers!

This book is definitely a pick. Gentle, loving and beautiful.
