Transported me to a different time zone, to a different place which feels more like home
Last year, as I listened to Christmas music, I decided I needed to try figgy pudding, and my wife graciously acquiesced. This year's random lyric I decided needed exploring is "scary ghost stories" from The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year. Here is some info. Now, off to find some examples! https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/why-do-ghost-stories-go-christmas-1809...
The first of the two short stories was creepy and marvelously well written, but the second failed live up to the first;it was still good, but it wasnt excellent.
A very entertaining pair of stories over all.
Creepy Victorian story about sisters behaving badly. I read this a second time just a few days ago and it was more even more effective. It has all the elements of a great ghost story, but I am always especially disturbed when there is a child ghost. It was a story of great cruelty, in fact. As it took place mostly over Christmas and New Year's, it's also perfect for a holiday read! 😃
I'm between books so seemed a perfect night to read this little gem that @LeahBergen sent last year. How's that for a Christmas cover? 😆🤶
And thank you @robinb for the prettiest Christmas card that arrived today! 🤗
“I had seen a look of ghastly terror on Dorothy's face, which made my very blood run cold.“

The Old Nurse's Story is a great example of a gothic ghost story, and the perfect type of thing for the season. I hope everyone enjoyed the story. Be sure to let us know your thoughts. Gothic stories always have a sort of morbid take on the twist ending. What do you think of the twist ending in this case? How do you think it fit with the rest of the story? #litereads #halloweenreads #octoberreads
The Old Nurse's Story is written as thought the nurse is telling the reader the story directly. What do you think of this style? How does it compare for you to other stories that use that same style? #litereads #halloweenreads #octoberreads
The Old Nurse's Story gives us the classic gothic setting of an isolated English manor filled with danger and secrets. Did this setting add to the mood for you? What did you think of it? #litereads #octoberreads #halloweenreads
Our latest short story pick for #LiteReads is another one that works great for #halloweenreads and #octoberreads
Elizabeth Gaskell's short story The Old Nurse's Story is a perfect example of a gothic ghost story. I hope everyone enjoys the story. Be sure to let us know what you think. Links to read it are in the blog post.

Two Victorian tales of the gothic. Little ghost children will never not be creepy. In the second story, a traveler accidentally stumbles upon a party filled with fairy tale characters as guests. #24in48 #readathon
#maybookflowers I missed #supernaturalmysteries yesterday, so here's one that works for that as well as #blackandwhitecovers .
