Loved this. The 2nd in the trilogy of the life of William Marshall, this was vibrant, lush, moving … magnificent. Loved every second. What an extraordinary and fabulous life. Chadwick‘s writing, character building, and portrayal of historic events, personalities, and day-to-day life is incredible. 5/5

CindiB Not yet @MsMelissa. Good to have as it is considered the first I know in this series. Got the Irish Princess yesterday which is about Isabelle‘s maternal family and her Dad too. I am looking for A Place Beyond Courage and also want to get copy of The Scarlet Lion for myself, as this was a library book. I will want to reread this series! Love how different authors capture same details … bring them more to life. Love this time period. (edited) 4y

This is my favorite Elizabeth Chadwick book to date. I am fast becoming a fan of historical fiction..... we are in the 12th/ 13th century here with William Marshal. The story , the detail , the characters, all of it makes for a powerful read. I did not expect the ending. Beautiful....
