I have to say, it's my least favourite. I didn't feel much for the characters and the plot wasn't as developed as her usual perfection.
Now I need to ascertain if any of them are in her latest!
A little audio to get me through working on a Sunday. I‘m having a hard time getting into this one, though. The audio is a little flat for me. The story feels like it‘s just on the edge of something but the audio isn‘t quite getting it there.

I love her writing and the American village/town lifestyle. I fell in love with her when I read 'My Name Is Lucy Barton'. It's such a simple story about a minster 'Tyler' in a small town in New England. It is about his life as a pastor, town people, kids, and widowed life. It is one of those books where you can get lost and time flies by, I did not want the book to end (but it did), and it was a little disappointing...

I listened to Abide with Me about a minister in a small town where rumors go awry. It reminded me somewhat of Garrison Keillor's work (the one I read ;)). Listening detracted from my ability to enjoy Strout's writing and dry humor.
pickFinished early this morning as we are arriving in Stockholm, day 14. From the ships library. Have to tell you sailing past lots of islands. Beautiful. The book was a good read. Feelings, relationships, religion, God . Well written and speaks to the heart of what it is to be human. @MrsMalaprop
bailedI put this down about 1/3 of the way through to read my book club book and feel no great urge to pick it up again
pickThis is such a good book! So well written, real characters, real issues. Elizabeth Strout is very impressive. Definitely recommend.

pickAnother great book by Strout. I love the quietness of her books and how they centre on a small cast of characters. Her depiction of small town life is by turns touching and frustrating and very real to me.
This book follows a grieving vicar who is trying his best to support a demanding and increasingly hostile flock. He is trying to do right by everyone but at what cost to himself?
I've decided to go for something a little more 'literary' than my recent reads. I loved Olive Kitteridge but wasn't as partial to Lucy Barton. 6 pages in to this and she's already got my attention 😊 Strout knows how to write such beautiful prose.
