Baby Bear | Kadir Nelson
4 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
From Kadir Nelson, winner of the Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King Author and Illustrator Awards, comes a transcendent picture book in the tradition of Margaret Wise Brown about a lost little bear searching for home. This simple story works on so many levels: as the tale of a bear who finds his way home with the help of his animal friends; as a reassuring way to show children how to comfort themselves and find their way in everyday life; and on a more philosophical level, as a method of teaching readers that by listening to your heart and trusting yourself, you will always find a true home within yourselfand that even when it feels like you are alone, you never really are. This F book Baby Bear is a Caldecott Honor Winner and is a great book for a LC. The book consists of a baby bear looking to find his way home with the help of some friends along the way. It would be great in an LC as the students can predict what may happen next within the story. This would go great with UDL 8.3 Foster collaboration and community and ESOL Strategy 29 Offer a variety of reference materials at the students‘ instructional level for

ATejada independent use. A great resource to use to help students also under the authors purpose is this letter from the author explaining why he wrote the book and what the book means to him https://b0f646cfbd7462424f7a-f9758a43fb7c33cc8adda0fd36101899.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.co.... #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
DrSpalding Understanding authors purpose is an important aspect of reading. Nelson is a fabulous artist. Good choice. 6y
prissy.mooney Sounds like a great book to do with the class. Definitely an opportunity for extendable lessons 6y
ATejada @prissy.mooney it is such a great book! It‘s a little long but I can definitely see why it won an award! 6y

Okay this category is a dangerous one for me. I could have easily posted 100 different books. Hi, my name is Lisa & I'm addicted to picture books. @jess.how

Cinfhen I also LOVE picture books, I think I was more excited at story time than my kids ever were!!! 8y
Lmstraubie @Cinfhen Whenever we go to a bookstore my sons (now 18 & 14) have to drag me out of the children's section 😁 8y
