They are the victims no one has ever cared about, until now. Agents Stevens and Windermere return in the blistering new crime novel from the fast-rising, multi-award-nominated suspense star. She was a forgotten girl, a runaway found murdered on the High Line train through the northern Rocky Mountains and, with little local interest, put into a dead file. But she was not alone. When Kirk Stevens and Carla Windermere of the joint FBI-BCA violent crime force stumble upon the case, they discover a horror far greater than anyone expecteda string of murders on the High Line, all of them young women drifters whom no one would notice. But someone has noticed now. Through the bleak midwinter and a frontier land of forbidding geography, Stevens and Windermere follow a frustratingly light trail of cluesand where it ends, even they will be shocked.

Read for a challenge (Six Shooter - read six mystery/thriller books by the same author - and this was sixth in the Stevens/Windermere series. I really like the author, will read his other books.

If you love Sandford's prey series and books about serial killers, this is a great read alike. The tension is taut and I found myself skipping paragraphs to get to the parts I wanted. I rarely skip a word when I read, but I had to find out what was going to happen. Tense and very good. I like his writing style too.

Mehso-so

A pretty rock-solid thriller, full of suspense and all the other things you want in a book about a serial killer being hunted down over several states. On the other hand, it's a lousy Stevens & Windermere novel -- it could have literally been any other detectives/agents/maverick cops and the book would've played out the same way.

Stevens and Windmere are back. A girl finds a pic of a dead girl on her dates phone. He swears it isn't his. Sometimes pics show up since he lost his phone and replaced it 6 months ago. The problem, the girl is their Jane Doe. Who took the pic? Who knows the girl? Not far away, another body is found, much the same MO. There are stories.... legends. How do you catch a ghost?
Love this series! 5☆'s

I'm not sure how I missed Owen Laukkenen's books and am so glad I came across this one on edelweiss. While I usually don't like serial killer mysteries, the main characters really captured my attention. Now I have to go read the other books... My TBR is ever growing :-)
