I hadn't bought anything from Thriftbooks in quite a while, but this addict might have fallen off the wagon again. Latest haul brings me a few more titles in the Hap & Leonard series, and a few other titles I've had my eye on.

Set in Appalachia, this book tells the story of a family‘s legacy of violence, drugs, guns, and intimidation. This story doesn‘t just build suspense for the end, he eloquently drops revelations and connections throughout the story. (My jaw dropped several times.) There‘s moments of cruelty and gritty humor…moments of levity are needed when absorbing oneself into the lives of these characters. Fans of David Joy will love this. #MountTBR ⛰
This was a fast paced, in your face, page turner that is a terrific story with a couple of wowza twists. It reminded me in some ways of Justified, which is one of my all time favorite TV shows. Good versus evil never gets old especially when it's between a crime family that spawns a deviant who joins the law force and is pitted against the family. Well crafted and seamlessly weaves between characters, past and present.
The Burroughs are kings of Bull Mountain. From moonshine to marijuana to meth, Bull Mountain has been home to a Burroughs led criminal enterprise for the last century.
With plenty of blood and buckshot and more than one carefully plotted, unexpected switchback in the story, what follows is one heck of a crime novel.

“She was in a state of suspended animation, waiting to hear her husband say the words she knew he‘d say. It made him who he was. He didn‘t have a choice. It was his father‘s pride. It was the reason she loved him and the one thing she was completely sure would crush her heart into dust.” #CountryNoir
Generations of Burroughs have lived on Bull Mountain in North Georgia. The mountain is like an empire of shady dealings and it's their birthright.
In present day, Clayton Burroughs is sheriff of the small town in the shadow of the mountain. His career choice has left him disowned.
ATF agent Simon Holly walks in to Clayton's office with a deal for him to share up the mountain.
This is my first taste of southern grit lit and it didn't disappoint!
I went on a bit of a book-buying spree on Black Friday, and scored these 9 books + 2 others for a mere $41. Check out my most recent blog post for a quick blurb on each—link‘s in my bio!
#LyricalApril Day9 #Renegades Two great books both featuring #renegades 😎Bull Mountain is a Southern fiction, multigenerational saga of crime, family, and vengeance. Clayton Burroughs comes from a long line of outlaws & #renegades & Wavy & Kellen from ATUAWT are a pair of #renegades as well. PS: I'm featuring today's video because it's actually inspiring

#AugustPhotoChallenge Bull Mountain is my pick for most under-hyped book. This was my favorite book of 2015. So much more than just a mystery. Brian Panowich was a happy discovery from last year's Decatur Book Festival and I devoured this book. https://wellreadneck.wordpress.com/2016/08/22/countdown-to-the-decatur-book-fest...
Heading stateside for a night and need to pick a back up "just in case" book. Any suggestions? This is my main upstairs TBR pile - not to be confused with my downstairs TBR pile, my kindle TBR pile or any of my other piles! Sigh. I'll never read them all, but I'll die trying.
I have in my formerly horse-ranched hands the winner of the Best First Novel Award at ThrillerFest16. How apropos in a way (not with the illegal-product plotline, but the rural lifestyle way, lol!).
FINALLY! A book I LOVED😍 Family drama peppered with sex, drugs, guns & plenty of violence. What does that say about me???🤔lots of good twists, not a highly intelligent read but plenty of action!
New month, new book😜 Doesn't mean I'm going to bail on the other 3 I'm in the middle of....Just trying to find a book that can hold my attention 😁 Happy Holiday Weekend 🇱🇷
This one was unputdownable for me. It taps into family ties, family legacies, connections between people and the land they live on, and the lengths people are willing to go for the ones they love. So good.
Hate to say anything bad about a book but this one was so disappointing to me. The writing was bad, the dialogue was terrible, and the characters were really 1-dimensional so I just could not get invested in what happened to them. Oh well :(
"They had both looked deep within themselves and found an ugliness that couldn't be stuffed back inside." What a heart wrenching and wonderfully written story, where the men move the story by the women carry the weight.
Easy to get into. I liked the description of North Georgia. Talk about family drama! Makes your family look like the Waltons!
This is a crazy book. I did not see the end coming at all. It is a tale of a family embroiled in a network of drugs, murder, and general wrong doing. It's Robin Hood in a Godfather/Macbeth sort of way. Panowich creates excellent non-stereotyped Southern characters.
