The HBO series never won me over, but Atlantic City's story is still an interesting one. This book charts its 20th-century arc from sleepy beach resort to Prohibition-era hedonistic paradise to a destination spot for east-coast gamblers, until softening restrictions on gambling in neighboring states in the early 2000s sent it spiraling into financial chaos. Not as gripping as a tale of political intrigue and organized crime ought to be, though.
