BFFs Madison and Alyssa have the summer planned out--long days at the beach, hanging out, baking cookies--but all that changes when Alyssa's mother and the film crew have to head back to Hollywood. Which means Alyssa is moving, just when Madison finally has a best friend. But there's a silver lining: Madison is invited to spend some time over the summer in Los Angeles Madison is excited to travel on her own, but she doesn't count on being homesick--or having to deal with her fear of dogs by sharing the house with Nadine, Alyssa's large but lovable Rottweiler. But the chance to meet Alyssa's recently discovered father and an opportunity to pay back an obnoxious tour guide give the best friends plenty of distractions--and show them both that they have much more strength than they ever realized.

alexamorris06 No matter what life throws at you, you can overcome everything. For example in the Book Madison and Alyssa are faced with an obstacle which is Alyssa moving to Hollywood. The girls overcome this obstacle by asking their parents if Madison could spend the summer with Alyssa and her mom. No matter how far the girls are from each other they will always be BFF‘S! 5y
MissYaremcio Great job Alexa! I really appreciate how much detail you put into the summary! I like how you chose to interpret the symbol as overcoming obstacles! That is a literary technique called motif (when you use a theme as a symbol) and is usually hard to identify! Great work! 6/6 5y

This is an utterly charming middle grade novel about a 10 year old who's best friends with the daughter of a movie star. There are fun trips back-set (as an actor, Meg Tilly obviously knows Hollywood). I paired it with my son's outgrown pink elephant because reading it made me feel nostalgic for the days when my children gobbled cheerful books (as opposed to yet-another-girl-dead-books).

minkyb Oh I remember having the same feelings. It seemed that when my daughters were middle grade readers and beyond all the books had to do with someone dying. I remember Cheaper By the Dozen from my younger years lol. 8y
