Jack Valentini isn't my type. Sexy, brooding cowboys are fine in the movies, but in real life, I prefer a suit and tie. Proper manners. A close shave. Jack might be gorgeous, but he's also scruffy, rugged, and rude. He wants nothing to do with a "rich city girl" like me, and he isn't afraid to say so. But I've got a PR job to do for his family's farm, so he's stuck with me and I'm stuck with him. His glares. His moods. His tight jeans. His muscles. His huge, hard muscles.Pretty soon there's a whole different kind of tension between us, the kind that has me misbehaving in barns, trees, and pickup trucks. I've never done anything so out of character--but it feels too good to stop. And the more I learn about the grieving ex-Army sergeant, the better I understand him. Losing his wife left him broken and bitter and blaming himself. He doesn't think he deserves a second chance at happiness. But he's wrong.I don't need to be his first love. If only he'd let me be his last.

What a wonderful book. The characters were so good and the story really sweet.

Maddie is a single mom coming back to her hometown to sell her mother‘s house. Beckett has been in love with her since high school, but had his own fears so was only her friend. As they live and work together with their families the two grow closer. I loved how the author included past trauma and difficult emotions in such a careful way.

Jemgirl2014 That's funny. I just kind of finished this one. loI l skipped around a bit towards the end but I thought it was sweet. Have you read all of the books in the series? My favorites are "Drive Me Wild" and " Call Me Crazy". I think CMC is one of the best enemies to lovers books I've read. Bianca and Moretti are nuts! LOL 3y
Lauren_reading @Jemgirl2014 I actually read this one first not realizing it was part of a series! I just grabbed the first book. 3y
Jemgirl2014 @Lauren_reading Ooh! You're in for a treat then! If you read them, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. 😊 3y

When nothing else is going right in life, at least I know I'm killing my reading goal for the year. 😕

Unexpectedly absorbing. Neither society deb nor veteran/cowboy farmer are my go-to romance types but Harlow gives her couple a rich inner life, fleshed-out back stories, a believable conflict, and a raunchy-sweet sexual chemistry. I‘ll be hunting down her back list. #romantsy

MarriedtoMrT I unexpectedly loved this one, too! 7y
MarriedtoMrT I should also mention I really loved her novel Frenched but have been pretty so-so on most of the others I tried. 7y
Jaya @MarriedtoMrT good to know! I‘ll try that one next. 7y

I'm a bit surprised I bought this because I'm over uber-angst and "damaged" but I'm glad I took a chance. Yes, Jack is ex-military with a dead wife (over the top much?) but I was happy that readers knew most of his demons up-front (no angsty reveal) and Melanie Harlow's humor kept things from getting too intense (well, except for the ?.) A stand-a-lone in a friends series (my fav) this is a solid contemporary. Good for fans of Christina Lauren.

MarriedtoMrT Ran out of characters so here's the tag: #romantsy 8y
