Fascinating, well-documented survey covering 6 centuries of English undergarments, enhanced with over 100 illustrations: 12th-century laced-up bodice, footed long drawers (1795), 19th-century bustles, 19th-century corsets for men, Victorian "bust improvers," much more.

Thanks to @EloisaJames I will hopefully describe my time-traveling character's underbits correctly :)

[DELETED] 1409720085 It is weird that I'm incredibly fascinated by this? 8y
CogsOfEncouragement My high school aged daughter and I were discussing a book from the 1800's and my tiny knowledge of what their undergarments would have truly consisted of. lol 8y

Pickpick

This book is a historical romance writer's best friend. It's not just a list--it explains the reasoning behind styles. For example, of huge hoop skirts: "This extraordinary exaggeration of the lateral dimensions of the skirt may seem an attempt to deny sex attraction..." in fact, no! They then quote poetry to clarify the sensual appeal of being as wide, if not wider, than a doorframe.

CharissaWeaksAuthor I need this! 8y
brownem I met you at in 2016 and hearing you answer audience questions about writing made me want to give it a go. I'm buying this book because I now have a WIP. Thanks @EloisaJames ! 8y

Leelee08 I was wondering if you could help me out with a suggestion. I've been wanting to start reading your books (having recently started reading romance!) and I was wondering what book I should start with. Any help is appreciated!❤❤❤ 8y
EloisaJames @Leelee08 what a nice question!! When Beauty Tamed the Beast is a good gateway drug, or so they tell me. My American Duchess is not a fairy-tale re-write and also a stand-alone. Either one! 😘😘😘 8y
Leelee08 @EloisaJames Thank you so much! I just bought My American Duchess and Duchess in Love. Can't wait to start them!😍😍😍 8y
