In this YA contemporary romance, there's only one rule: Keep your enemies close and your friends closer. Olivia Clayton has mastered the art of tearing others down to stay on top. She and her best friend, Adrienne, rule their small southern town like all good mean girls dothrough intimidation and manipulation. After Olivia suffers a family tragedy and catches Adrienne sleeping with her boyfriend, Olivia is over it. She decides to make a change, but it's impossible to resist taking down Adrienne one last time. Up to her old tricks, Olivia convinces golden boy Whit Du Rant to be her SAT tutor and her fake boyfriend. But when it starts to feel real, Whit gets caught up in Olivia and Adriennes war. Olivia may ruin everything she touches, but she won't go down without a fightnot if it means losing Whit. And definitely not if it means losing what's left of herself. An Imprint Book

How to Break a Boy is *so* good. It's got mean girl drama, fake dating, and revenge. As messed up as Olivia Clayton was, I cared about her. I rooted for her. I cringed and got anxiety when she kept messing up and making bad decisions, but I also had compassion because I understood why she was the way she was. She did want to be a better person. In the end, How to Break a Boy is about love and redemption. I'm so glad I read it.

Just noticed this on the copyright page in my current read, How to Break a Boy -

"I'm not going to ask you not to take this book - I'm going to warn you. This books knows who you are. It knows what you've done. And this book will ruin you."

Olivia Clayton is a terrible terrible person. She destroys other people‘s lives without even batting an eye. She excuses her behavior by telling herself that her best friend Adrienne is the reason why. She needs her friendship and Adrienne won‘t be her friend if she isn‘t as dark as her.

I really disliked Olivia. I couldn‘t understand why she was so destructive but I couldn‘t put the book down. She really redeems herself at the end.

That was both entertaining and stressful.
I loved the POV of the mean girl; we don't get enough of that. The prose was sharp, the tension real, and I couldn't read this book fast enough. Whit was also fantastic, as was Claire.
I could have used more from Adrienne, and I wanted a more satisfactory ending to their story. Olivia's decisions were inexplicable at times. The ending was cute bordering on cheesy. I would have liked more there.

Goodreads calls this a "contemporary romance", which I guess?? The main character, Olivia, catches her best friend, mean girl Adrienne, and boyfriend together. She decides to take down Adrienne. As part of her revenge plot she convinces golden boy Whit to act as her boyfriend. This book left me stressed!!! I couldn't stop reading about Olivia and Adrienne's toxic relationship and the lengths they went to hurt each other.

[DELETED] 1409720085 I guess? Hahahaha. 8y
melissathebeautiful @emilydecato that is just not how I would have described it. 8y

My two hours of entering goodreads giveaways paid off! This makes me much happier than the staff meeting to which I was supposed to be paying attention.

cariashley Jealous, I haven't won one in forever! 8y
JackieSmith @cariashley I recommend a useless staff meeting & entering many many many giveaways ☺ 8y
