Modoc: The True Story of the Greatest Elephant That Ever Lived
Modoc: The True Story of the Greatest Elephant That Ever Lived | Ralph D Helfer
7 posts | 17 read | 11 to read
Spanning several decades and three continents, "Modoc" is one of the most amazing true animal stories ever told. Raised together in a small German circus town, a boy and an elephant formed a bond that would last their entire lives, and would be tested time and again; through a near-fatal shipwreck in the Indian Ocean, an apprenticeship with the legendary Mahout elephant trainers in the Indian teak forests, and their eventual rise to circus stardom in 1940s New York City. "Modoc" is a captivating true story of loyalty, friendship, and high adventure, to be treasured by animal lovers everywhere.

My #DoubleSpin for this month is finished. 😁 @TheAromaofBooks

This book is for anyone who has ever had a special bond with an animal, or any and all animal lovers. What Modoc and her human go through at times is so devastating, but the bond they share is incredible.

I loved this one! 😍🐘

I'm also using this for #ReadingEurope2020 for #Germany @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

I rarely reread books, but this is at least the third or fourth time I‘m read this one. An incredible true story that will make you laugh and cry. I always forget how many twists and turns happen in the life of this remarkable elephant and her best friend/trainer.

#LiteraryLove Day 27: A different kind of #TrueLove, Fats noted in her review: “Seldom do we think about other forms of love, those that transcend romanticism. The love between Bram and Modoc is an example of such.” Clearly, “A Kindred Spirit in the Form of a Pachyderm.” Her full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-33Z

ReadingRover I‘ve owned this book forever but haven‘t read it yet. I‘m afraid it‘s going to be too sad in the end. 6y

I really enjoyed this story. It reminds me of my grandfathers memoirs and the far reaching travels and adventures in far away lands.
