Way Home in the Night, The
Way Home in the Night, The | Akiko Miyakoshi

A gentle, dreamlike tale about heading home in the night. A mother rabbit carries her young bunny home through the dark, quiet streets. The lights are on in many of the animal neighbors windows, so the bunny can see, hear and smell whats happening inside: a pie being pulled out of the oven, a party, a goodbye hug. When they reach home, the father rabbit tucks the bunny into bed. But the bunny continues to wonder about the neighbors activities. Are the party guests saying goodnight? Will the one saying goodbye take the last train home? Until finally, the tired bunny falls asleep. The perfect story for the end of the day.

“Some nights are ordinary, and other nights are special. But every night, we all go home to bed.”

This is my second Miyakoshi book, and her artwork never ceases to amaze me. In this book, a boy‘s parents carry him home at night at the end of the day. Through lit windows he observes the goings on of his neighbors and imagines how their nights might end. So lovely! Sparse and richly illustrated. 🌙 🌙 🌙 🌙

A beautiful book that will make you wonder more about people, the world, and the night.

A little rabbit wonders about all the "people" she sees in the windows she walks by with her mom at the end of the day. (I am totally guilty of the same thing!) Cute story but I did find the anthropomorphized animals a bit creepy. (That is totally me on the couch minus the antlers.)

TheWordJar I do the same thing!! (And because I know from doing that people like to window watch, I always have my curtains closed at night!) 8y

Lindy On the Kirkus Fully Booked podcast, this was recommended for parents looking for a break from Goodnight Moon at bedtime. Also a few others that sound good, including 8y

Cute story of a family walking home at night, what they see through lit windows, and the lives the young child imagines in each for each inhabitant. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a simple but beautiful book. Take a walk in the dark and what do you see? You see a bookseller reading before bed. Maybe you see a goat in the bathtub, or even someone heading out for a late night train.
