I read this using @SerialReader as part of my plan to increase Holiday reading. The writing style, while beautiful, is confusing at times, so much so, that I found myself rereading passages frequently. In one of the stories, a supposedly poor man holds court at a party elaborating on all of his marvelous acquisitions. It ends with a comment about “castles in the air” which I needed to Google to understand! #winterwonderland #walkingintheair

Starting a book of Christmas short stories on @SerialReader . Written in 1850, the language can be daunting. So much to explore! A favorite new word: sassigassity! Coined by Dickens. “Audacity with Attitude” I am thinking to include this delightful word in my personal vocabulary! 🤔

Kaye I noticed that , when I read some of the older classics , it‘s almost like you have to reset your brain because of the flowery language compared to today‘s authors. The classics usually take me longer because of that Plus they seem much more wordy. If that makes any sense. 6y
Naj I'm using that word from now on! 6y
DivineDiana @kaye Yes, “reset the brain”! I get it, and quite frankly, I would love it to be permanently on that setting! 😀 6y

DivineDiana @gradcat What was the other one? 6y
gradcat It‘s on @saresmoore tag for Villette...it was crotchets, I believe which, loosely defined means testy...let me check that...will edit any incorrect parts, 😆 No—it means “unfounded and perverse.” Sheesh! (edited) 6y
DivineDiana @gradcat Thank you! I just went back and looked at her post. #wordlover 6y
