This was an interesting book about 1572 Scandinavia. I‘m not sure how I feel about it.

A mysterious illness plagues the royal family and power struggles ensue. It‘s a good book but not my favorite.
Ostensibly for YA, this Renaissance Sweden-era tale contains LOTS of mature content: sexual abuse and exploitation of women, gore and murder aplenty, enough STDs to make you recoil. And yet it's a fairy tale of a sort, one of the originals where fates are gruesome and happy endings are not assured. Longer than it needs to be but still darkly fascinating if you can take your princess tales drenched in blood.
(One of) my favorite bookstore(s), Dickson Street Bookshop. Litsy needs to mash up with a dating app. Just saying.
While it seemed to take forever to get through, it was a really great story. And while it is categorized as YA, I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone under the age of fifteen.
About halfway through book #2 on the reading list for class. While it is a good book thus far, I'm really questioning its categorization as a YA read. There's some pretty, um, explicit stuff in here...
Whatever expectations you have for this book, leave them at the door. This book is nothing like you imagine and that could be a good or bad thing. Cutting and gut wrenching, this is not a story for the faint of heart. I had to walk away a few times. It's as brutal as the fairy tales of old.
Going into this a little blind, but given the awesome title and cover, I hope it's great.
